    SUNYAC announces weekly awards for the week of Oct. 19-25

    CORTLAND, NY - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) fall athletes of the week overlap with the first swimming and diving athletes of the week for the week of Oct. 19-25. The conference honors 13 athletes across eight sports.

    FEMALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK – Brenna Lyons (FR)  
    Cortland (Addison, N.Y./Addison)
    Brena Lyons was Cortland's top finisher at the Cornell University John Reif Memorial Run. She finished 19th out of 42 runners over 5,000 meters in 20 minutes, 16.3 seconds running mainly against runners from Division I Cornell and Syracuse.

    MALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK - Andrew Espey (FR)  
    Cortland (West Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity)
    Andrew Espey led six Cortland top-10 finishers in the 5,000-meter race at the Cornell University John Reif Memorial Run. He finished second overall, and was the top official collegiate finisher, out of 23 runners in 17 minutes, 6.7 seconds.

    FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Allyson Wells (FR)  
    Oneonta, Forward (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna)
    Allyson Wells posted five goals and one assist for the Red Dragons in a pair of games last week. She had her second, three-goal game of the season in an 8-0 win against Morrisville and then followed with two goals and one assist against Stevens Institute. The rookie has 11 goals and two assists this season to lead Oneonta in scoring with 24 points.

    FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Dayna Mercer (SR)  
    Geneseo, Goalie (Katonah, N.Y./Katonah)
    Dayna Mercer picked up a pair of wins in goal for Geneseo last week, including a 3-1 win over Houghton on Wednesday and a 2-1 win over Oswego on Saturday. She made five saves, including three in the second half as the Knights overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit versus Houghton. She was also credited with five saves during Saturday's one-goal decision versus Oswego that clinched the third seed for the SUNYAC Tournament.

    MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Peter DiLorenzo (SR)  
    Brockport, Forward (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville)
    Peter DiLorenzo celebrated senior day on Saturday and came through with a clutch pair of goals when Brockport needed it most. With the Golden Eagles trailing by a score of 2-0, DiLorenzo scored the goal to tie the score and the game-winner to secure second place within the SUNYAC standings. DiLorenzo also scored on Friday, totaling three goals on the week as Brockport climbed the standings with a big victory over Plattsburgh on Saturday.

    MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Vincent Pellegrino (SR)  
    Oneonta, Goalkeeper (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin)
    Vincent Pellegrino posted two shutouts this past weekend to help Oneonta clinch the SUNYAC regular season title and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament. He made five saves in a 3-0 win against Fredonia and then made a pair of saves in a 1-0 victory against Buffalo State. Pellegrino now has eight shutouts this season while posting a 0.54 goals against.

    WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Anissa Hartmann (JR)  
    Plattsburgh, Forward (Fairfax, Vt./BFA Fairfax)
    Annissa Hartmann tallied a hat trick on Tuesday against Johnson State College and recorded an assist over the weekend in helping Plattsburgh State to a 2-0-1 week.She is currently tops in the SUNYAC in goals with 13, and points with 27.

    WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Gabrianna Boldinski (SR)  
    Buffalo State, Defense (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East)
    Gabrianna Boldinski led a Bengals' defense that posted two more shutouts to secure the regular-season SUNYAC title. The senior defender helped Buffalo State concede just one shot in a 0-0 tie at New Paltz on Friday, and then allowed just six shots with only one on goal in a 1-0 win over Oneonta on Saturday. Boldinski also scored the game's only goal on a header off a long throw in in the 67th minute. 

    VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sam Holdredge (JR)  
    Brockport, Outside Hitter (Brighton, N.Y./Brighton)
    Holdredge was an incredible force for the Golden Eagles over the weekend! Brockport traveled to New Paltz this weekend for SUNYAC pool-play boasting an undefeated conference record and put that record on the line against New Paltz, who also was unbeaten in conference play. Holdredge was a major force in the match, helping Brockport to an unlikely comeback from a 0-2 deficit. She finished the match with 19 kills, two blocks and an ace. She also passed 100% efficiently on 22 serves that came in her direction, while also leading the team with 26 digs. She helped Brockport clinch the top seed in SUNYAC and the opportunity to host the tournament.

    FEMALE DIVER OF THE WEEK - Meghan Bartlett (JR)  
    Fredonia (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown)
    Meghan Bartlett has won five boards in three meets. Was a double-winner Oct. 3 at Allegheny -- 211.10 in the 1-meter, 227.34 in the 3-meter. Was the 3-meter winner Oct. 17 at Niagara with a score of 262.58. This past Saturday at Ithaca (with Brockport), Bartlett won both boards -- 243.90 in the 1-meter, 260.00 in the 3-meter.

    FEMALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK - Cassidy Griger (SR)  
    New Paltz (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central)
    New Paltz senior Cassidy Griger participated on four winning relays, as New Paltz placed first out of five teams at the Union Relays on Saturday at Union (N.Y.) College. She kicked off the meet by splitting a 53.92 freestyle leg on the Hawks' event-winning 400 medley relay (4:09.68), and she followed that up by swimming the anchor leg on New Paltz's event-winning 500 crescendo relay. Griger anchored the Hawks' event-winning 200 medley relay (1:54.89) with a freestyle leg of 25.46, and she capped off the meet with a 54.82 split in the 100 freestyle anchoring the team's event-winning 400 freestyle relay (3:44.47).

    MALE DIVER OF THE WEEK - Arron Carlson (JR)  
    Fredonia (Leroy, N.Y./Notre Dame)
    Arron Carlson won the 3-meter Oct. 3 at Allegheny with 237.50 points; was third in the 1-meter. Scored 315.83 points -- an NCAA provisional qualifier -- to win the 1-meter Oct. 17 at Niagara; was second in the 3-meter. Last Saturday at Ithaca in a tri-meet including Brockport, Carlson was a double-winner. He netted 262.30 points in the 1-meter. His score of 323.75 points in the 3-meter was another NCAA provisional qualifier

    MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK - Lucas Santiago (JR)  
    Oneonta (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam)
    Lucas Santiago was the top swimmer for the Red Dragons this past Saturday with three individual victories. He won the 200 yard individual medley (2:04.16), finishing more than two seconds ahead of his Oswego challenger. He followed that up with a win in the 100 yard butterfly (55.22), just .68 ahead of the Oswego second place finisher. His final win of the day came in the 100 yard backstroke (57.44), .44 seconds ahead of the Oswego challenger.
