Geneseo takes 2015 SUNYAC men's cross country crown

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Geneseo captured the 2015 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's cross country team title, Saturday at the championship meet hosted by Plattsburgh. This is the second-consecutive and 14th overall men's cross country SUNYAC title for the Knights.
Geneseo sophomore Isaac Garcia-Cassani was the individual champion in the 8K race, crossing the line first in a time of 25:00. Geneseo's Alfredo Mazzuca and Brockport's Gary Messina were second and third with times of 25:10 and 25:12 respectively.
Dylan McCarthy from Oswego earned the Rookie of the Year honors crossing the line before any other first-year runner in a time of 25:47.
Garcia-Cassani, Alfredo Mazzuca, Kyle Collins and Anthony Lupia have been named to the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame by finishing in the top five. Messina finished third, but has previously been inducted into the hall of fame in 2014. To qualify for the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame, a runner must finish in the top 5 once, top 10 twice, or top 15 three times.Â
Eight of the top 15 finishers were from Geneseo, while two were from second place team Fredonia and one from the third place team Oneonta. The top 15 finishers were named to the SUNYAC Men's Cross Country All-Conference Teams.
The SUNYAC Coach of the Year award will be announced Tuesday after a vote from the conference coaches.
