SUNYAC Athletes of the Week - October 14, 2025
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects its fall Athletes of the Week week after the seventh week of competition in 2025 and adds its first swimming and diving picks of the 2025-26 season. The conference honors 17 student-athletes from nine different member institutions for their outstanding performances during the week of October 6- October 12.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week – Nik Recore, Cobleskill
Senior Nik Recore delivered a dominant performance for Cobleskill at the 27th Annual Bronco Classic hosted by Delhi, capturing his first individual win of the season in commanding fashion. Competing on the 5K course at the Delhi College Golf Course, Recore took control of the race early and never looked back, crossing the finish line in 16:50.9 - more than 35 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week – Gabrielle Waite, Cobleskill
Sophomore Gabrielle Waite led Cobleskill to a first-place team finish at the 27th Annual Bronco Classic hosted by Delhi, capturing the first individual win of her collegiate career. Competing on the 5K course at the Delhi College Golf Course, Waite broke away early and never trailed, finishing in 19:56.7 - nearly 50 seconds ahead of the next runner.
Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week – Ashley McGough, New Paltz
McGough was the facilitator in a huge 2-1 win over Cortland Saturday for the Hawks. She assisted on both goals, creating both chances with big plays in transition. The first came off a fast-break quickly finding Rachel Tama for the opening goal and on the game-winner, she beat her man to get endline, setting up a wide-open Mattie Betts for the game-winning goal in the third quarter. She finished the day with two shots, both on goal, with two points in the win.
Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week - Gail Comiskey, New Paltz
Comiskey made seven crucial stops in a 2-1 win over Cortland Saturday, playing a full 60 minutes in the win.
Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week – Declan Gallagher, Plattsburgh
Declan Gallagher led the way offensively for Plattsburgh State during a perfect 2-0 week in conference play, helping the Cardinals secure wins over Oneonta and Canton. Gallagher delivered in clutch moments, scoring the game-winning goal in both matches. Against Oneonta, he fired a stunning strike into the top corner from outside the box to lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory. He followed that performance with another decisive goal in the team?s 2-0 win over Canton.
Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week – Joey Raap, Canton
Raap combined to stop 18 of the 20 shots he faced (.900 save percentage) as the Roos split a pair of SUNYAC games last week. He opened the week with a seven save shutout, his first career clean sheet, in a 2-0 win against Potsdam on Wednesday. The win was the first ever for the Roos against the Bears in men's soccer as Canton was previously 0-8-1 against Potsdam since joining D-III as full members. On Saturday against Plattsburgh Raap stopped a career-high 11 shots to keep the Roos in the game throughout in an eventual 2-0 loss to the Cardinals (7-2-4). The sophomore now owns a 1.13 goals against average and .864 save percentage in 10 appearances this season.
Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week – Madison Wagner, Potsdam
Wagner had four goals and an assist for nine points in two SUNYAC victories for the Bears last week. In a 5-0 win over Canton at home on Wednesday, she scored a goal and added an assist. At Morrisville on Saturday, Wagner scored three times, including the game-winner, as Potsdam rallied for a 4-1 victory.
Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week – Jess Centeri, New Paltz
Centeri was critical in a 0-0 tie on the road against Oswego Saturday for the Hawks. In her first game back after missing the last four due to injury, Centeri stepped up to have her second game with double-digit saves, matching a career-high in her fifth shutout of the season.
Women's Tennis Singles Athlete of the Week – Lisa Schulz, Cortland
Schulz won both of her matches at first singles during the week. She won 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 versus Oneonta's Haley Peck on Thursday, helping Cortland clinch a SUNYAC playoff berth in the process. The following day she won 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) over Alfred University's Alina Zabihailo. Schulz is 10-2 overall in singles play this fall, including an 8-2 mark at first singles.
Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week – Annika Cripe/Haley Peck, Oneonta
Annika Cripe and Haley Peck finished the week 1-1 in doubles with a win in conference play. Cripe and Peck faced Cortland's Christina Massoni and Lisa Schulz on the No. 1 court and outplayed them for a 6-2 victory. The duo improved to 6-5 overall as a team, and 2-2 against conference opponents.
Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week - Kira Pirrera, Cortland
Pirrera averaged 4.3 kills per set in a pair of road SUNYAC sweeps for the Red Dragons. She recorded 19 kills with just three errors in 35 attempts (.457 attack percentage) and added 11 digs in a win at Oneonta Friday, and the following day she had seven kills, three aces, seven digs and three blocks in a win at New Paltz. She finished the weekend with 26 total kills and a .288 attack percentage.
Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week - Lauren Millspaugh, Cortland
Millspaugh averaged 1.3 blocks per set (eight in six sets) in a pair of SUNYAC road sweeps. She had six block assists in a win at New Paltz Saturday and recorded two solo blocks the previous night in a win at Oneonta. Millspaugh also shined offensively with a combined 17 kills and just three errors in 27 attempts for a .519 attack percentage.
Men's Swimmer of the Week - Kellen Dickman, Cortland
Dickman swam legs on Cortland's winning 3x100-yard butterfly relay (2:45.16) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:21.49) during the season-opening Cortland Pumpkin Relays. He also was part of the runner-up 400-yard medley relay team (3:38.63), 3x100-yard breaststroke relay team (3:09.21), 3x100-yard medley relay team (2:53.96) and 200-yard medley relay team (1:40.24). His performances helped Cortland claim the team title at the five-school meet.
Men's Diver of the Week - Conor Compton, Alfred State College
Conor Compton represented Alfred State Diving at the Pumpkin Relays Invitational getting first place on both boards. Compton scoring 329.65 points on the 1-meter board. Compton also scored 329.65 points on the 3-meter board.
Women's Swimmer of the Week - Kallie Smith, Penn State Behrend
Smith led the Lions at the Cortland Pumpkin Relays, swimming in three winning relays on Saturday. She swam a leg on the winning 400 medley relay, 3x200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Women's Diver of the Week - Alyssa Haberlack, Cortland
Haberlack won both diving events at the Cortland Pumpkin Relays, helping the Red Dragons finish first at the four-team meet. She won 1-meter diving with a score of 222.65 points and 3-meter diving with 227.70 points.
