SUNYAC Athletes of the Week - March 30, 2026
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces its spring Athletes of the Week honoring 12 student-athletes from seven different member institutions for their performances during the week of March 23-29.
Baseball Athlete of the Week - Harry Uvena, Oswego
The Freshman Uvena had a great week at the plate for the Lakers. In eight at bats, he scored three runs, recorded four hits, six RBI, and mashed two home runs. Uvena also stole a base on his way to hitting .500 AVG, .600 OBP, and 1.250 SLG.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week - Dan Collins, Cortland
Collins came out of the bullpen and pitched five scoreless innings for the win in a 6-3 victory over New Paltz on Saturday. He allowed two hits and no walks and struck out two batters.
Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Thomas Hnis, Oneonta
Hnis finished the week with nine goals for nine points with four ground balls to help Oneonta go 1-1 with a win in SUNYAC play this week. Hnis started the week off with a hat trick in Oneonta's battle with Geneseo. The junior attackman then led the Red Dragons with six goals for six points and three ground balls in their 12-11 conference opening win over Potsdam. Hnis currently leads the SUNYAC with 34 goals.
Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Ethan Francey, Plattsburgh
Francey played a pivotal role in the Cardinals' defensive effort in their 10-6 SUNYAC opener against New Paltz. The sophomore midfielder recorded a career- and game-high six caused turnovers, tied for fifth in program history for a single game, and added two ground balls, consistently disrupting the Hawks' offensive rhythm. He also showed strong composure with possession, committing just one turnover, and contributed offensively with a goal and an assist, helping Plattsburgh secure the conference-opening win.
Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Alexis Hill, Oswego
Hill helped the Lakers earn two SUNYAC wins this week on her way to scoring her 100th career goal. At Fredonia, she scored 5 goals and 2 assists and followed that up with 4 more goals against Morrisville with 5 additional assists. In the process, Hill collected 8 ground balls, 2 draw controls and caused 10 turnovers. Hill is cirrently tired for first in the conference in goals (36) and points (50).
Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Amy Whitman, New Paltz
Whitman was dominant defensively to lead the Hawks to a 12-4 win over visiting Fredonia. She picked off numerous passes while in the team's zone defense and matched a career-high four caused turnovers in the game. She was also active all over the field and totaled a career-high seven ground balls, which also ranked tied for third-most in single season history. The junior captain presence and voice was crucial in containing the Blue Devils offense, which notched just 12 shots, six on goal for a season-low four goals scored.
Softball Athlete of the Week - Payton St. Clair, Potsdam
St. Clair hit .667 in a 2-2 weekend for the Bears. She had 10 hits, scored seven runs and drove in seven. On Friday in the first game against Skidmore she hit her first collegiate home run. In game two she was 4-for-4, tying Potsdam's single-game hits record. she also drove in three runs and scored two. She was 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and another homer in Sunday's opener at Cobleskill. In the finale, she went 1-for-4 with a run and a double.
Softball Pitcher of the Week - Alex Frenza, New Paltz
Frenza became the third Hawk in program history to throw for a perfect game. She did so in a five-inning, 10-0 rout of Purchase Friday, giving up no hits, no walks with a season-high 10 strikeouts.
Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Carter Tobin, Penn St.-Behrend
Tobin won the 100m and placed second in the 200m at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday. He clocked in with a winning time of 10.64 in the 100 and then ran 22.45 in the 200.
Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Isaiah Brunache, Cortland
Brunache finished first out of 76 competitors in the shot put (16.74 meters/54' 11.25") and eighth of 32 in the hammer throw (53.74 meters/176' 4") at the Widener University Danny Curran Invitational. His shot put currently ranks eighth nationally in Division III and his hammer throw is 16th nationally. Both also are AARTFC qualifiers, and his shot put ranks first in the SUNYAC.
Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Alexa Wolcott, Cortland
Wolcott won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Widener University Danny Curran Invitational. Her time of 11:14.49 is an AARTFC qualifier and ranks 11th nationally in Division III.
Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Jennifer Ndukwu, Cortland
Ndukwu finished seventh of 35 in the hammer throw (48.82 meters/160' 2") and sixth of 69 in the shot put (11.46 meters/37' 7.25") at the Widener University Danny Curran Invitational. Her hammer throw ranks 18th nationally in Division III, is an AARTFC qualifier and ranks first in the SUNYAC, and her shot put is second in the SUNYAC.
