SUNYAC Athletes of the Week - April 6, 2026
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects its spring Athletes of the Week highlighting performances of 12 student-athletes from five different member institutions.
Baseball Athlete of the Week - Anthony Carlo, Cortland
Carlo batted .571 (8-for-14) with three doubles, seven runs scored and seven RBI in a 4-0 week for Cortland. He had a .632 on-base percentage and a .786 slugging percentage, and he handled 10 chances in right field without an error. Carlo went 3-for-3 with three doubles, a walk, five RBI and two runs scored in a 21-2 win over Canton in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, and in the second game he was 2-for-4 with three runs scored in an 11-7 victory. He also went 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored in an 11-1 win over the Roos in the opening game of the three-game series, and he drove in a run earlier in the week in a 7-2 victory versus Rochester.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week - Ryan McLaughlin, Cortland
McLaughlin pitched five hitless innings with six strikeouts and one walk allowed in a 21-2 win over Canton. He retired the first 14 batters he faced before issuing a two-out walk in the fifth, but then retired the next batter and was pulled before the next inning with Cortland holding a 21-0 lead.
Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Dylan Ruland, Plattsburgh
Ruland played a pivotal role in the Cardinals' road SUNYAC contest at Oswego State, finishing with a career- and game-high seven points on five goals and two assists to lead Plattsburgh to a 12-10 victory. The junior attacker was highly efficient, putting eight of nine shots on goal for an 88.9% SOG rate, while also contributing two ground balls. Ruland set the tone for Plattsburgh's offense and helped the Cardinals secure their second consecutive conference win.
Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jack Skarren, Cortland
Skarren had a strong defensive performance in helping the Red Dragons to a 21-4 road win at Potsdam on Friday, recording a game-high four caused turnovers and adding two ground balls, while helping the Cortland defense allow just four goals in the contest.
Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Aubri Greene, Oswego
Greene helped the Lakers earn two more SUNYAC wins this week from the midfield. At Canton, she scored 3 goals and added two assists. Then at home against Oneonta, she scored 4 more goals to bring her point total for the week to 9. She also collected 5 ground balls, 2 draw controls, and caused 6 turnovers.
Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Bridie McGuire, Cortland
McGuire was the top defensive performer for the Red Dragons in a 2-0 week, totaling 12 ground balls, four caused turnovers, four draw controls, and one assist, while helping the Cortland defense allow an average of just 3.5 goals per game. The junior had six ground balls, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls in a 14-2 home win over Oneonta, while also contributing her first point of the year with an assist. She followed it up with six more ground balls, two caused turnovers, and one draw control in a 15-5 road win at New Paltz on Friday.
Softball Athlete of the Week - Laila Smith, Cortland
Smith recorded two hits in each of Cortland's four road victories as the Red Dragons opened SUNYAC play. She finished the week batting .533 (8-for-15) with three doubles, a walk, two steals, four RBI, a .588 on-base percentage and a .733 slugging percentage. In a doubleheader sweep at Potsdam on Friday, Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs and two steals in an opening 9-0 victory, followed by a 2-for-4 performance with a double, RBI and two runs in a 9-2 win. At Plattsburgh Saturday, she was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI in a 9-1 win and finished 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and three runs in a 16-2 victory.
Softball Pitcher of the Week - Gianna Endieveri, Cortland
Endieveri turned in two strong pitching performances for victories on the road as Cortland opened SUNYAC play. She tossed 11 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and two walks and striking out 11 batters. She opened the weekend Friday at Potsdam with six innings of three-hit ball, striking out six and walking one, in a complete-game 9-0 shutout of the Bears. The next day at Plattsburgh, she gave up one hit and one walk and fanned five in five scoreless innings in a 9-1 win over the Cardinals.
Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Carter Tobin, Penn State Behrend
Tobin broke the Behrend 100 meter outdoor record, clocking with a time of 10.44 for first place at Slippery Rock on Saturday. He also placed fourth in the 200 meter with a time of 21.32. Those times are currently ranked ninth and 10th in Division III respectively.
Mens's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Lee Qualk, Penn State Behrend
Qualk tied for runner up in the long jump and broke the school record at Slippery Rock on Saturday. He hit a distance of 7.41 meters on his fifth attempt for the new program mark. He is currently tied at the No. 1 spot in Division III.
Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Jaiden Schrag, Oneonta
Sophomore Schrag helped the Oneonta women's track & field two two first-place relays at the Cortland Red Dragon Open. Both relays posted AARTFC qualifying marks with the 4x100 winning at 48.44 (40th in DIII), while the 4x400 took first at 4:06.36. Schrag also placed second in the 100-hurdles at 15.16 as the top Division III finisher. Schrag won the long jump at 5.48 meters.
Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Jennifer Ndukwu, Cortland
Ndukwu broke the Cortland school record in the hammer throw with her winning distance of 53.69 meters (176' 2") at the Cortland Red Dragon Open. She defeated 23 other competitors in the event, and her performance ranks fourth nationally in Division III and first in the SUNYAC. Ndukwu also finished fifth of 25 in the shot put at 11.43 meters (37' 6") and 12th of 24 in the discus (29.61 meters/97' 1").
