SUNYAC Athletes of the Week - December 1, 2025
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC releases its winter Athletes of the Week for the week of November 24-30. The league honors six student-athletes from five member institutions for their performances.
Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Irwayne Connell Jr., Plattsburgh
Connell Jr.'s career-high day paced the Cardinals on the offense and defensive end in a tough loss to Middlebury. The senior forward netted a career-high and game-high 26 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor and 60 percent from behind the arc. He also added a game-high eight rebounds and led his team in blocks and steals with two each.
Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Deanna Barry, New Paltz
Barry led her team in scoring off the bench, totaling a career-high 18 points in an 81-41 blowout of Mount Saint Vincent Nov. 25. Barry drained 6-for-9 from 3-point range (also a career-high) and finished the afternoon shooting 60 precent from the floor in 18 minutes. She also added a rebound and an assist to her stat line.
Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Jackson Drysdale, Canton
Drysdale scored two of Canton's three goals in a 4-3 OT non-conference loss at Potsdam in the Roos lone game of the week. The junior got Canton on the board 12:58 into the first period to open a 1-0 lead. He then added a shorthanded tally 3:32 into the third period to give the visitors a 3-1 lead but a pair of unanswered goals from the Bears forced OT in the eventual loss. Drysdale also went 13-for-20 on faceoffs in the game.
Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Bryan Tang, Skidmore
The Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational All-Tournament Team selection had two goals and an assist over the three games leading the Thoroughbreds. He had a goal and a helper in Saturday's 4-1 win over Alvernia before scoring the first goal again as Tufts and Skidmore tied at three on Sunday.
Women's Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week - Eline Gillodes, Cortland
Gillodes had a strong performance in goal in leading the Red Dragons to a 3-1 upset victory over #13/12 Elmira last Tuesday, stopping 22-of-23 shots for a .957 save percentage in the win. The freshman also made 12 saves in the final period with the Red Dragons holding a one-goal advantage to secure the victory.
