New Paltz Wins 2021 Field Hockey Championship
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - New Paltz defeated Cortland, 1-0, to win its sixth overall State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) field hockey title, Saturday at New Paltz's North Turf Field. With the win the Hawks earned an automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA field hockey tournament.
New Paltz's Hannah Ackerman was named the Tournament MVP after scoring the lone goal for the Hawks to win the championship. Jessica Ascencao had the assist and was named to the All-Tournament team. Ryan Dowling had six saves for the Hawks in goal.

The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. This year's field hockey honoree is a double major in sociology and psychology with a minor in disaster studies from New Palz, Morgan Gunter. The senior midfielder holds a 3.97 cumulative GPA.
