Mancuso, Durante and Thomas chosen for PrestoSports Ice Hockey Weekly Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has chosen Plattsburgh's Joey Mancuso, Cortland's Luca Durante and Plattsburgh's Trey Thomas as the PrestoSports Men's Ice Hockey Athlete, Goaltender and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Mancuso registered six points on four goals and two assists in a 2-0-0 week for the Cardinals. He tallied two points on a goal and an assist on Friday, helping Plattsburgh State edge Buffalo State, 4-3. On Saturday, he recorded his second hat trick of the season, notching four points on three goals and one assist in a 13-1 triumph over Fredonia. Among SUNYAC leaders for the season, he is tied for second in power-play goals (6), tied for fifth in goals (13), tied for sixth in points (24).
Durante posted a 1-0-1 record with a 1.44 GAA, 86 saves, a .966 save percentage and one shutout as the Red Dragons (11-9-2, 6-5-2 SUNYAC/21 points) secured four important conference points this past weekend. On Friday, he recorded his second shutout of the season, turning aside 41 shots, including 21 in the third period alone, as Cortland handed nationally second-ranked Geneseo just its second loss of the season and its first shutout defeat since Feb. 17, 2017. In a 3-3 overtime tie at Brockport on Saturday, Durante turned aside a season-high 45 shots with 23 of those saves coming in the third period and overtime. For the season, he has posted a 9-5-2 record with a 2.29 GAA, 578 saves, a .937 save percentage and two shutouts.
Thomas tallied six points on three goals and three assists in a 2-0-0 week for the Cardinals. On Friday, he scored the game-winning goal shorthanded and added an assist in a 4-3 victory over Buffalo State. Thomas then notched four points on two goals and two assists with a +3 rating in a 13-1 triumph over Fredonia on Saturday. For the season, he has 15 points on nine goals and six assists.
