Three SUNYAC Athletes Selected to D3hoops.com Men's All-East Teams
Three State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball players have been named to the D3hoops.com 2013 Men's All-East Region Teams. Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools. Oswego senior forward Hayden Ward (Montaulk, NY) earned first team honors while Cortland State senior guard Jesse Winter (Rockville Centre, NY) and Buffalo State senior guard Jake Simmons (Rochester, NY) were named to the second team.
Ward was recently voted SUNYAC 2013 Player of the Year along with All-Conference First Team member. Hayden Ward closed his career as second in career rebounds(892) and top-ten on the career scoring list(1,393) for the Oswego State men's basketball program. One of Ward's most notable achievements was helping Oswego State clinch their first SUNYAC Championship since 1965. This season, Ward contributed to Oswego's 19-8 record, averaging 18.2 points a game and 9.6 rebounds.
Jesse Winters was also a 2013 SUNYAC First Team All-Conference member. Winters averaged 15.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game to help the Cortland Red Dragons tie a school record for wins, finishing the season 24-5. Winters was also a contributing factor to Cortland's first SUNYAC men's basketball title since 2000 and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament, tying for 17th nationally. Winters will end his career with 1,525 points which makes him Cortland's career scoring leader.
Buffalo State's Jake Simmons led the SUNYAC with 21.4 points per game and 2.8 3-pointers per game. In addition, he was third in 3-point shooting percentage(4.10). Simmons is the first player in Buffalo State history to eclipse 2,000 career points, finishing his career with 2,079. He also will go down in school history for setting career records for 3-pointers(321) and steals(234). Simmons was also named a 2013 SUNYAC First Team All-Conference member.
