SUNYAC 2016 Ice Hockey Awards Released
CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces its 2016 men's ice hockey annual awards which are voted on by the conference coaches.
The Herb Hammond Player of the Year award was given to Geneseo's Stephen Collins, Defensive Player of the Year was given to Brockport's Chad Cummings,  Rookie of the Year went to Brockport's Tim Kielich and Geneseo's Chris Schultz was named Coach of the Year.
Collins, a junior forward, scored nine goals and added 12 assists in16 conference games this season. Overall he tallied 40 points with 20 goals and 20 assists in 25 games. Collins helped lead his team to a third place finish in the regular-season, 9-2-5. The Knights will take on Potsdam Wednesday night.
The rookie forward Kielich scored eight goals and had 11 assists in 16 conference games. He added another three goals and eight assists outside the league. Kielich was named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Week twice this season as he helped his team finish fifth in the conference after regular-season play, 6-6-4. The Golden Eagles will face #4 Oswego, Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Senior Cummings totaled 11 blocks on defense and added five goals and 11 assists to help his team to 11-10-4 overall. The Golden Eagles will continue their season Wednesday and hopes to capture their first SUNYAC ice hockey title.

In his 10th season coaching at Geneseo, Schultz led his team to a third place regular-season finish in the conference this year, 9-2-5. The Knights are 15-4-6 overall going into post-season play. Geneseo will host Potsdam on Wednesday, Feb. 24 for the chance to move on to the semifinals Saturday. The Knights look to capture their fourth SUNYAC title and first since 2016. This is the fourth time Schultz is being honored as the SUNYAC Ice Hockey Coach of the year.
