SUNYAC honors athletes for performances during the week of Oct. 26- Nov. 1
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has honored athletes across fall and winter sports for the week of Oct. 26 - Nov. 2.
FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Gabby Stein (JR) Â
Cortland, Forward (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell)
Stein helped lead the Red Dragons (13-4) to a pair of non-conference wins last week while becoming just the 11th player in program history to reach 100 career points. She scored Cortland's final two goals in a 5-0 home win versus Union on Saturday to push her over the 100-point plateau. Stein now has 103 points on 46 goals and 11 assists in her three-year career. She currently leads the Red Dragons with 33 points on a team-high 14 goals and five assists.
FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kailynne Reinoehl (FR) Â
Cortland, Goalkeeper (Lititz, PA/Warwick)
Kailynne Reineoehl improved her season record to 13-4 as she posted two more wins in goal for Cortland last week. In a 2-1 win at St. Lawrence on Wednesday, Reinoehl stopped four shots. She followed up with a three-save shutout, her sixth shutout of the season, in a 5-0 victory versus Union on Saturday. For the two games, she posted a 2-0 record with a 0.50 GAA, seven saves and an .875 save percentage. Reinoehl has season numbers of a 0.80 GAA and an .860 save percentage.
MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Nicholas Laurent (SO) Â
Plattsburgh, Forward (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South HS)
Nicholas Laurent tallied a goal and an assist in helping the Cardinals to a 2-0 victory in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals on Saturday.
MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Mitchell Jordon (SR)
Plattsburgh, GK (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Bolton HS)
Mitchell Jordon had two shutouts this week totaling seven this season in a 2-0 vs. Canton on Tuesday and a 2-0 victory in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals on Saturday. Jordon tallied eight saves in the two games.
WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Audrey Burbidge (FR) Â
Oswego, Forward (Cazenovia/Cazenovia)
In Saturday's 2-1 SUNYAC quarterfinal victory over Geneseo, Audrey Burbidge scored the game-winning goal in the with only 7:55 remaining in regulation. The Cazenovia, N.Y. native also recorded an assist on the game's first goal, giving her three points on the day. The win is the Lakers first-ever SUNYAC Championship victory in program history.
WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Nichole Gibson (FR) Â
Plattsburgh, Goalkeeper (Arkport, N.Y./Arkport Central Schools)
Nichole Gibson helped preserve a 3-2 win over Brockport on Saturday making four saves in the process. Gibson made a point-blank save on a Golden Eagle striker inside the box, early in the first half to keep the score knotted at 0-0.
VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ariel Murawski (FR) Â
Oswego, RS/OH (West Lafayette, Ind./Wm. Henry Harrison)
Ariel Murawski was a big key offensively as the Lakers closed out their regular season with a 3-0 record over the weekend. The freshman led the team in kills every match, including notching a career-high 19 in a five-setter against SUNY Poly on Saturday. Defensively, Murawski put up eight total blocks on the weekend, while also recording nine digs. Against Alfred Universtiy, the West Lafayette, Ind. native nabbed two service aces as well.
FEMALE DIVER OF THE WEEK - Meghan Bartlett (JR)
Fredonia (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown)
Meghan Bartlett (JR) Â
Meghan Bartlett had a winning 3-meter scoring of 256.10 points during Fredonia dual meet Saturday at Rochester Institute of Technology. She also finished third in the 1-meter with a scoring of 217.60 points.
FEMALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK - Maya Kaplan (JR) Â
Oswego (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn)
Maya Kaplan secured three wins for the Lakers on Saturday as the team took down Wells College 80-35. The junior took five points to start the day, touching the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle. She would then go on to take both the 100 and 200-yard breast events with times of 1:18.6 and 2:54.72, respectively.
MALE DIVER OF THE WEEK - Arron Carlson (JR)
Fredonia (Leroy, N.Y./Notre Dame)
Arron Carlson was a double-winner Saturday during Fredonia's dual meet at Rochester Institute of Technology. Both of his scores were NCAA provisional qualifiers: 280.70 in the 1-meter and 325.65 in the 3-meter. He has been victorious in 6 of 8 competitions this year, including four straight.
MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK - Jeff Doser (SO) Â
Geneseo (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield)
Jeff Doser won two events and swam the anchor leg on the meet-clinching relay as Geneseo defeated Division I Canisius, 126-117, in the season-opener on Saturday. Doser posted the day's fastest times in the 100 free (47.78) and 200 free (1:44.43) and was a part of the 200 free relay (1:26.96) that closed the meet with a victory.Â
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Dylan Vander Esch (SO) Â
Potsdam, Forward (San Jose, Calif./Hartford Wolfpack)
Dylan Vander Esch had a four-point weekend in two wins for the Bears. After being blanked on Friday against Morrisville, he broke out in a 6-3 win on Saturday. The sophomore recorded his third career hat trick and added an assist to help Potsdam to a 2-0 start.
ICE HOCKEY GOALIE OF THE WEEK - Jared Lockhurst (SR) Â
Brockport, Goalie (Caledon, ONT)
Jared Lockhurst stood tall in net, stopping 32 shots Friday night against Cortland in a 6-2 win including 13 shots in the second period. Saturday against Oswego the senior made 27 saves and only allowed one goal. The Lakers had 2 power play opportunities but Lockhurst would not let anything past him during that span. On the weekend, Lockhurst tabbed 59 saves and allowed three goals in 119:07 minutes of play.
ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Luke Rivera (FR)
Fredoni, Forward (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Pomfret School)
Luke Rivera had points in each of his first two collegiate games this weekend. He assisted on Fredonia's lone goal in Friday's 1-1 SUNYAC tie at Buffalo State. Rivera then scored his first college goal at 2:18 of the third period during Fredonia's 7-3 home win Saturday over Southern New Hampshire. He added a second goal later in the third period to go with an assist in the second period. He finished his first weekend with two goals and two assists.
