Former Cortland Goaltender Matt Meacham Brings Stanley Cup to Hometown Massena
Former SUNY Cortland men's ice hockey goaltender Matt Meacham '08 got the chance to bring the Stanley Cup to his hometown of Massena, N.Y., as the second-year video coach for the 2015 NHL champion Chicago Blackhawks.
Meacham, like other members of the Blackhawks, was granted the privilege of having one day with the storied trophy. He elected to bring it to the Massena Arena on August 11, with a stop beforehand at the Massena Memorial Hospital, to share it with more than 1,500 people from the community. Meacham's main duties with the Blackhawks include scouting opponents and analyzing game footage before, during and after games. He also dresses and serves as a backup goaltender for the Blackhawks in emergency situations. Meacham served six years as video coach for the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators before earning his position in Chicago.
Meacham played two seasons at Cortland from 2004-06. He registered an .890 save percentage in 25 games as a junior and an .881 save percentage in 22 games during his senior year. Meacham was a sport management major at Cortland after transferring from Skidmore College.
