Buffalo State Runners Named Athletes of the Week; Geneseo and Cortland Honored in Field Events
FREDONIA, NY— The SUNYAC named Buffalo State sophomores Jimmy Campbell and Jazmin Dunham Men’s and Women’s Track Athletes of the Week after record-setting performances over the weekend against DI and DIII competition at Youngstown State. In addition, Geneseo's Wenley Louis and Cortland's Sarah Bonnell excelled in the field events at their respective meets.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE – Buffalo State
Jimmy Campbell (Owego, NY/Owego), sophomore
Jimmy Campbell won the 400-meter dash against DI and DII competitors at the Youngstown State Invitational with a facility record time of 48.60 seconds - the third fastest time in Division III this season. He added a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.36).
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE – Buffalo State
Jazmin Dunham (Rochester, NY/Greece-Olympia), sophomore
Sophomore Jazmin Dunham won the 200-meter dash with a new school record time of 24.81 seconds, and also placed fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.87), competing against DI and DII competition at the Youngstown State Invitational on Friday.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE - Geneseo
Wenley Louis (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit), senior
Senior Wenley Louis won the long jump with the third best Division III performance of the season at 7.24 meters at the Spire Midwest Open in Geneva, Ohio.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE- Cortland
Sarah Bonnell (Norwich, NY/Norwich), sophomore
Sarah Bonnell won the long jump with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 5.43 meters (17 feet, 9.75 inches) at the Cortland Winter Invitational. Her distance is the top performance in SUNYAC this season and currently ranks 13th in Division III. She also finished second in the 60-meter dash (ECAC-qualifying 8.10 seconds) and anchored the second-place 4x400-meter relay (4:19.92) at the meet.
