Annual Indoor Track and Field Awards Announced
FREDONIA, NY - State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Commissioner Dr. Patrick Damore has announced the six major awards for the Indoor Track and Field season. All six awards are voted on by the conference coaches.
Outstanding Male Track Athlete – Oneonta
Sean Bernstein (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), junior
Sprinter Sean Bernstein was named the Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the SUNYAC Championship Meet. Bernstein won a pair of SUNYAC titles after entered the meet as the top seed in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes. He posted the fastest times in both events including a meet record in the 200. He won the 60 in a time of 6.92 while he crossed the line in the 200 in a time of 21.67. His time in the 200 broke the meet record set last year by Justin Allen of Buffalo State, who ran a time of 21.76. Bernstein was also the lead leg for the 4x400-meter relay that missed a SUNYAC title by .01 seconds to Cortland.

Sasha Henry (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mt. Vernon), junior
Sprinter Sasha Henry was voted the Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the SUNYAC Championship Meet as she paced Buffalo State to a runner up finish with 121 points. Henry sprinted her way to a pair of conference championships, winning the 60 and 200-meter dashes in 7.65 and 25.73 seconds respectively. Both times were ECAC qualifying marks.
Outstanding Male Field Athlete – Geneseo

Wenley Louis (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit), senior
Senior Wenley Louis won a pair of SUNYAC indoor track and field titles and posted two ECAC qualifying performances to earn the Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the Meet honors. Louis won the long jump in a SUNYAC meet record and ECAC-qualifying distance of 7.24 meters and the triple jump with an ECAC-qualifying leap of 14.32 meters. Geneseo captured their seventh men's team championship.
Outstanding Female Field Athlete – Brockport

Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galwa), junior
Brockport junior Nicole Jones won an individual title and hit two ECAC qualifying marks to earn Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Meet honors. Jones won the shot put for the second straight year with a school record throw of 12.69 meters, clearing 12 meters with five of her six throws on the day. Her distance of 15.44 meters in the weight throw was a personal best and earned her second place.
Men’s Coach of the Year – Geneseo
Dave Prevosti
Eighth-year head coach Dave Prevosti was named the 2012 SUNYAC Men’s Coach of the Year as a result of the Knight’s outstanding showing. Geneseo captured its seventh Championship title (fourth under Prevosti) with 152 points. The Knights captured six individual titles and won one relay. This is the third time Prevosti has won the Men’s Coach of the Year, previously winning in 2006 and 2010.
Women’s Coach of the Year – Cortland

Steve Patrick was named the SUNYAC Women’s Coach of the Year after guiding the Red Dragons to its 15th Indoor Track and Field title and first in five years. Cortland comfortably won the title with 163 points compared to runner-up Buffalo State's 121 points. The Red Dragons won four of the 16 events at the championship and finished runner-up in four events. This marks the second Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year honor for Patrick who was also honored in 2008.
