Remembering Former Buffalo State Athlete Molly Seifritz
Former Buffalo State women's lacrosse player and current Medaille head coach, Karen Shaddock recently organized a day of remembrance for former teammate Molly Seifritz. When Buffalo State played SUNY Cortland, April 13, the student-athletes wore Team Molly shirts for warm-ups to honor Molly. Medaille, St. Bonaventure and Niagara also participated by wearing Team Molly shirts on the same day. Molly passed away on Saturday, March 2 after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Syracuse and graduate of Henninger High School, Molly enrolled at Buffalo State in the fall of 2006. During her five-year career that was extended by a season-ending injury in 2009, she played in 65 career games and ranks sixth in school history with 156 career points, including 112 goals.
She tallied 41 and 51 points in her junior and senior seasons respectively after recovering from injury, and garnered All-SUNYAC Honors in both seasons. She was also named to the SUNYAC Championship All-Tournament Team in 2010. She served as a team captain in each of her final two seasons.
Molly also excelled off the field, completing her bachelor's degree in hospitality and tourism in 2010 with a 3.42 cumulative grade point average. She returned to school to take additional classes the following year to complete her final season of eligibility. A Buffalo State Scholar-Athlete, Molly qualified for the Dean's List five times and was on the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and Commissioner's List.
The money raised from the shirts was donated to cancer research.
