Men's ice hockey to host Down Syndrome Awareness Event
GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team will host a Down Syndrome Awareness event on Saturday, Jan. 24, in conjunction with its game versus visiting Canton.
Included in the night's events will be a raffle with proceeds benefiting the Arc of Livingston-Wyoming, a private, not-for-profit organization that provides services to developmentally disabled individuals and their families in the Western New York counties of Livingston and Wyoming. Both a Geneseo hockey jersey and hockey stick signed by the entire 2014-15 squad will be included in the raffle.
At the start of the season, the squad teamed with SUNY Geneseo Interim Director of Admissions Kevin Reed to start the "I Believe In Jack-Down Syndrome Awareness" campaign. The team has played every game with special stickers on their helmets in honor of Reed's son, Jack, who was born with Down Syndrome last year. The Reed family will be on hand to participate in a ceremonial puck drop prior to the game.Â
The team has also worn blue and yellow "I Believe In Jack" wrist bands during the season that will also be on sale throughout the night.Â
Face-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Wilson Ice Arena, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m.
