SUNYAC announces final 2015 ice hockey weekly awards and continues into spring
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) recognizes nine athletes from four different institutions as athletes of the week for the week ending March 8. The spring season is in full swing while Geneseo women's basketball and Oswego and Plattsburgh men's ice hockey continue their winter seasons into the NCAA tournaments.
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Connor Toomey (SR)
Plattsburgh, Forward (Billerica, Mass./Merrimack College)
Connor Toomey contributed on both goals for the top-seeded Cardinals in a 2-1 win against rival Oswego State in the SUNYAC Championship. He scored the first goal to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead before having the primary assist on the game-winner. Toomey was named the SUNYAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
ICE HOCKEY GOALIE OF THE WEEK – Brady Rouleau (SO) Â
Plattsburgh (Fort Macleod, Alberta/Quinnipiac University)
Brady Rouleau only allowed one goal on 18 shots to help preserve a 2-1 win over Oswego State in the SUNYAC Championship.
BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Myles Kutscher (SO) Â
Oswego (Glen Head/North Shore)
Kutscher played and started in all four games of for the Lakers this weekend, as Oswego went 3-1 against the No. 13 Rowan Owls. The sophomore batted .389 (7-for-18) during the four-game series, earning a team-high eight RBIs along the way. Kutscher also had eight putouts over the weekend.Â
BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Brendyn Karinchak (SR) Â
Oswego (Walden/Valley Central)
Karinchak helped Oswego secure its first win of the season against No. 13 Rowan on the road Saturday afternoon. The senior pitched eight innings for the Lakers, not allowing a single run and keepeing his ERA at 0.00. Karinchak only allowed four hits in his time on the mound and struck out a team-high eight batters.
SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Katie Marsman (JR)
Potsdam (Wantagh, N.Y./Wyoming Seminary)
Marsman hit .429 for the Bears in eight games last week. Six of her nine hits were for extra bases, including five doubles and a home run, giving her a slugging percentage of .810. She also drove in six runs and had a .455 on-base percentage.Â
SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Alexandrea Flint (SO) Â
Cortland, Pitcher (Dalton, N.Y./Keshequa)
Flint allowed only one run over six innings in a complete-game 1-0 loss at nationally second-ranked Salisbury Sunday. She scattered seven hits, struck out one and did not walk anyone.
MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – James Read (SR)
Plattsburgh (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place HS)
Senior James Read amassed 12 points through the course of three games and helped the Cardinals pick up their first two wins of 2015 in a 2-1 week. In the Cardinals' two wins on Long Island, Read scored three goals and added five assists.
MEN'S LACROSSE GOALIE OF THE WEEK – Matt Massaria (JR) Â
Plattsburgh (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park HS)
Junior goaltender Matt Massaria went 2-1 in net this past week, helping the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team level their 2015 mark at 2-2. The third-year man out of Floral Park, N.Y., made 36 saves and 11 groundballs through three games and lowered his goals against average from 12 to 7.99.Â

WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Emily Lange (JR) Â
Oswego (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga)
Lange started in both games in a week where the Lakers went 1-1. In Wednesday's loss against RIT, Lange put up two goals while also controlling five draws. In Saturday's victory over Houghton, Lange continued to show off her offensive skill set as she nabbed 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists). The junior also controlled three draws in that contest. On the week, the Saratoga Springs native collected four ground balls as well.
