Buffalo State Men's Hockey Volunteers at Special Needs Hockey Tournament
Â
Buffalo State's players were on hand for all games on both Saturday and Sunday of the six-team tournament comprised of participants from Western New York and Southern Ontario. The Bengals cheered on and encouraged the participants, offered advice and guidance to coaches, assisted players with equipment needs, helped stock locker room refreshments and helped clean the facility following the games. They also served as public address announcers, enhancing the environment for both the players and spectators, celebrating goals, assists and saves.
Â
This volunteer effort was an extension of the team's partnership with the Buffalo Sabres Thunder, the local special needs team. Buffalo State players have annually attended a game and at least one practice for the past several years to show their support for the organization. Ryan Steffen, a player on the Thunder, has served as an equipment manager for the Bengals for several years. Ryan's parents helped organize the tournament, and his mother Pam works as a financial aid advisor on campus.
