INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 6 Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team will host No. 9 Norwich University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday, March 11, at 7 p.m. at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena, as announced via the NCAA's selection show on Monday morning.
Plattsburgh State (20-5-2), ranked at No. 6 in the PairWise rankings that are used to select and seed the NCAA Tournament, earned the automatic bid out of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). Norwich (19-6-2), from the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), earned one of three Pool "C" at-large bids into the field.
The Cardinals are 24-35-7 against their longtime rival, and this marks their first meeting in the NCAA Tournament since falling to the Cadets, 3-2, in overtime in the quarterfinal round on March 12, 2011. Saturday's game will serve as the rubber match between the two teams in this year's series, with Plattsburgh State prevailing, 3-1, over Norwich in the FirstLight Shootout championship game on Nov. 26 and the Cadets taking a 2-1 victory on Dec. 6.
This marks Plattsburgh State's 23rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its first since 2016-17. The Cardinals won the national championship in 1991-92 and 2000-01.
The winner of Saturday's game will face No. 4 Endicott College (22-2-2) in the quarterfinal round.
Ticket information will be announced in a separate press release.
