SUNYAC Announces Fred Holloway Award Winner
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the winner of the 2012 Fred Holloway Award. The award is given to the men’s soccer student-athlete with the highest grade point average on either the first or second all-conference team with a minimum of four semesters of college completed.
Plattsburgh State senior Nick Pourakis (Stormville, NY/ Marist College) is the 2012 award recipient. Pourakis is the first Plattsburgh State athlete to earn the Fred Holloway award that honors former Cortland men's soccer coach, since its inception in 1990.
Pourakis played in all 21 games at defense for the Cardinals as they completed the season with a record of 17-3-1. He was named second team All-SUNYAC for Plattsburgh State after anchoring a defense that held opponents to just 20 goals in 21 games. The Cardinals finished 7-2 in SUNYAC play and earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament before falling in the finals to champion Oneonta, 2-1.
Off the playing field, Pourakis majors in information technology in the computer science department at Plattsburgh State. He was also on the SUNYAC All-Academic and Commissioner’s list in the fall of 2011.
