Pourakis and Glackin Earn NSCAA All-East Region Scholar Honors
State Univeristy of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's soccer players Nick Purakis (Poughquag, NY) from Plattsburgh State and Joseph Glackin (Latham, NY) from SUNY Potsdam have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s (NSCAA) 2012 Men's College Division Scholar All-East Region Team based on their All-SUNYAC selection and GPA.
Pourakis, a senior defender, is a third team honoree. Pourakis played in all 21 games for the Cardinals as they completed the season with a record of 17-3-1. He earned the first All-SUNYAC honors of his career, receiving a spot on the second team after anchoring a defense that held opponents to just 20 goals in 21 games. Pourakis was also selected as the recipient of the SUNYAC 2012 Fred Holloway Award. The award is given to the men’s soccer student-athlete with the highest grade-point average on either the first or second all-conference team with a minimum of four semesters of college completed.
Glackin earned honorable mention status based on his All-SUNYAC selection and his GPA, which was greater than the 3.3 minimum. A senior goalkeeper, Glackin capped his four-year career at Potsdam with another standout campaign, garnering a spot on the all-conference first team. The senior started 13 of the 14 games he played, with a 1.56 goals against average, a .784 save percentage and a 3-7-4 record. In his final game, the goalie shutout Clarkson for the Bears' first win over the Golden Knights since 2007. Glackin will leave Potsdam near the top of the program's all-time wins (14), shutouts (11) and saves (345) lists. During his junior season, the goalie was named to the All-SUNYAC second team and helped the Bears to their second playoff appearance in school history.
