Two SUNYAC swimmers honored by ECAC
Two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) swimmers were honored by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) for the period ending Jan. 4, 2015, as announced Wednesday by the ECAC.
Senior Samantha Granan (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) from the State University of New York at New Paltz has been chosen as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) NCAA Division III Upstate Women's Swimmer of the Week

Granan, who was also named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Female Swimmer of the Week for the same period, competed on a pair of relays that placed among the top four at the Tampa Relay Carnival on Saturday, as the Hawks placed fourth out of five teams in the final overall team standings, which included two NCAA Division II programs. Granan swam a 1:12.22 off a flat start in the 100 breaststroke to lead off New Paltz's 400 breaststroke relay, as the Hawks placed third with a time of 4:49.55. Later in the meet, she charted the second-fastest breaststroke split (1:11.37) among all competitors in the 400 medley relay, as the Hawks finished fourth with a standard of 4:17.66. New Paltz returns to action next on Friday, Jan. 16, at 4 p.m. when it hosts SUNY Cortland.

Granan ranks second in the SUNYAC in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.77) and sixth in the conference in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.77), charting those times at the MIT Invitational in December.

Koenig, who was also named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Male Swimmer of the Week for the same period, ended up being one of the top sprinters at the Tampa Relay Carnival on Saturday, as the Hawks placed third out of four programs in the final overall team standings, which included two NCAA Division II squads. Koenig posted the second-fastest 50 freestyle split in the 8x50 freestyle relay field, as he clocked a 21.54 in the Hawks' fourth-place finish (3:08.54). He finished the meet by swimming a 49.45 100 freestyle split in the 400 freestyle relay, as New Paltz placed seventh (3:31.37). Koenig also swam a 1:55.51 200 freestyle leading off the Hawks' seventh-place 800 freestyle relay (7:43.47) and a 57.83 100 backstroke leading off New Paltz's fifth-place 400 backstroke relay (4:06.30).
