Potsdam Athletes to hold 2nd Annual Swimming For Soldiers this Sunday
POTSDAM, N.Y.—For the second straight year, SUNY Potsdam Athletes will participate in the Swimming for Soldiers swim-a-thon this Sunday, March 29. The event will be hosted and run by Potsdam's Athletic Leadership Council, but representatives of all 16 Bears teams will swim on Sunday.
Â
Each of Potsdam's teams has been collecting pledge money and donations at Barrington Student Union each day during March. All of the money collected goes to the campus organization SUNY Potsdam Operation Military Support Group. The group then puts together care packages that include hygiene products, magazines, nonperishable food items and keepsakes to remind our service people of home.
Â
The packages are specifically targeted for those military personnel who attended Potsdam-area schools or those who have a connection to the area.Â
Â
Last year's swim-a-thon raised approximately $2,000. Anyone wishing to make a donation or a pledge can contact event coordinator Dan Costa at costads195@potsdam.edu.
