    Geneseo captures men's and women's swimming and diving team titles



    BUFFALO, N.Y. –
    The Geneseo men (881) and women (953) won the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Swimming and Diving team titles.This is the 23rd SUNYAC crown overall for the women and 22nd title overall for the men. Oneonta women finished second and New Paltz third. On the men's side Cortland was second and Oneonta third.

    Geneseo's Abigail Max took the Women's Swimmer of the Meet after winning the women's 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 100 freestyle. She was also named the Grace Mowatt Award winner, given to a female senior for overall academic and athletic excellence throughout their collegiate career.

    Fredonia's Meghan Bartlett took home the Women's Diver of the Meet. She took first place in the 1 and 3 meter diving finals.

    Oneonta's Chris Schuler-Ghiorse was named the Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year after leading her team to a second place finish.

    The Men's Swimmer of the Meet went to Geneseo's John Nasky, who took the men's 500 and 1650 freestyle events.

    Geneseo's Samuel Randall took the Men's Diver of the Meet award. Randall took first place in the 1 meter and 3 meter dives.

    New Paltz's Jack Spader was honored as the James Fulton recipient, given to a male senior for academic and athletic excellence.

    The Men's Coach of the Year went to Cortland's Brian Tobin after leading his team to a second place finish tonight.

    Saturday's finals began with the women's 1650 freestyle, where Oneonta's Lauren Zentko (17:38.61) took first place. Geneseo's Sophie Defreitas (17:41.99) and Cortland's Krista Caputo (18:00.15) followed in second and third respectively.

    Geneseo's John Nasky took the men's 1650 freestyle with a 15:41.88 time, besting his conference and meet record time (15:42.66) in 2014. New Paltz's Jack Spader (16.24.16) was second and Geneseo's Don McLoughlin came in third with a time of 16.36.70.

    The women's 200 back went to Oneonta's Taylor Waldrop, with a time of 2:07.92. In second place was Geneseo's Emily Smith, with a time of 2:09.44. Carly Cahill, Oneonta, came in third with a time of 2:09.97.

    The men's 200 back was won by Geneseo's Kristian Tialios, with a time of 1:51.66. In second came Oneonta's Colton Roe, with a 1:55.22 mark. In third place was Geneseo's Jacob Cole, with a 1:.56.95 time.

    The women's 100 free went to Abigail Max, of Geneseo. Max put up a 51.84 mark. Brockport's Taylor Shaffert (52.40) and Mary Jane Leja (53.18) came in second and third.

    The men's 100 free went to Connor Mergler, Buffalo State, with a 45.98 time. Cortland's Reeve Callen (46.27) took second place with and Cortland's Mark Hanifin (46.39) took third.

    Fredonia's Larissa Dobson took the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:23.07. Brockport's Melanie Melewski took second place with a 2:25.68 time. Amanda Berry, Geneseo, took third place with a 2:27.85 time.

    The men's 200 breast went to Fredonia's Adam Clouthier with a 2:05.77 time. Finishing behind Clouthier was Oneonta's Zeke Brynin (2:06.35) and Cortland's Jake Lukubek (2:08.41).

    Jenna Gibbons, Geneseo won the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:07.91. Hailey Modelewski, Geneseo, took second with a 2:09.74 mark and Kristen Bormann took third with a time of 2:12.07.

    The men's 200 fly was won by Fredonia's Jake Hewitt with a time of 1:54.31. Brockport's Austin Moyer (1:54.72) and Oneonta's Lucas Santiago (1:54.73) took second and third.

    The men's 3 meter dive finals went to Geneseo's Randall Samuel with a score of 516.30. Fredonia's Arron Carlson took second with a 497.15 mark and Rafael Santiago (485.65) took third.

    The women's 400 free relay was won by Geneseo with a 3:29.99 time. In second was Brockport, which finished with a 3:33.63 time. Fredonia took third place with a 3:36.54 mark.

    The men's 400 free relay went to Cortland, who set a conference and meet record with a time of 3:05.80. Geneseo took second with a 3:06.49 time, and New Paltz came in third (3:09.44).
