SUNYAC Athletes of the Week
BASEBALL PLAYER – Cortland
Zack Graczyk (Carmel, NY/Carmel), Outfield - sophomore
Cortland sophomore Zack Graczyk (Carmel, NY) batted .563 (9-for-16) with two walks, three steals and four runs scored in four tournament games to be named the tournament MVP. The Red Dragons won their 29th league crown and earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Div. III playoffs for the 19th straight year. Graczyk was 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the 6-1 win over New Paltz on the first day of the tournament. On day two, he had two hits and two RBI to defeat Oneonta 6-2 and advance to the championship. Graczyk had three of the teams 11 hits in the 5-3 loss to Brockport which forced a second game on championship Sunday. In the winner take all game, Graczyk finished with one hit as the Red Dragons came back to win 2-1.
SOFTBALL PLAYER – Cortland
Lyndsay Rowell (Sandy Creek, NY/Sandy Creek), pitcher - junior
Lyndsay Rowell (Sandy Creek, NY) led the Red Dragons to their 11th SUNYAC title and fourth in the last five years. Cortland earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament and will host a six-team regional field May 13-16. Rowell appeared in all four games for Cortland pitching 18 innings of the SUNYAC Tournament to earn MVP honors. She allowed 11 hits, with eight walks while striking out 10 and not allowing an earned run. She tossed a complete against Brockport when the Red Dragons came back to win 4-3 on the first day. On day two she threw two innings against Geneseo before throwing her second complete game of the tournament against Buffalo State. Rowell started for Cortland in the Championship game on Saturday against Buffalo State retiring all nine batters she faced, five by strikeout, in three innings.
MEN’S LACROSSE PLAYER – Cortland
Chris DeLuca (Sayville, NY/Sayville) – midfield - senior
Chris DeLuca (Sayville, NY/Sayville) – midfield - senior
Senior Chris DeLuca (Sayville, NY) tallied six points in two games as the nationally fourth-ranked Cortland men’s lacrosse team won the SUNYAC Championship and earned an automatic NCAA Div. III playoff berth. Cortland has won 11 straight games and will host Stevens Institute or Montclair in the second round of the NCAA tournament. DeLuca tallied one goal and added an assist in the 13-5 semifinal win over Brockport on Wednesday, along with 6-of-8 faceoff wins. In the Championship, he finished with four goals, two caused turnovers and 9-10 on faceoffs. He scored three of the first seven goals for an early Cortland lead.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE PLAYER – Cortland
Mary Hartzheim (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), midfield - sophomore
Sophomore Mary Hartzheim (Manlius, NY) was named the SUNYAC tournament MVP after scoring 11 points in two games. Cortland won their 16th consecutive game and captured their 13th straight conference title and automatic NCAA Division III playoff berth. Hartzheim finished with three goals and four assists in the 23-8 semifinal win over Geneseo. In the Championship game she scored four times to defeat Brockport 14-6.

Xavier Mateen (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) - senior
Xavier Mateen (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) - senior
Sprinter Xavier Mateen (New Rochelle, NY)was named the Outstanding Male Track Athlete SUNYAC Championship. The senior won the 100-meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 10.69 seconds, captured the 200-meter dash in 21.81 seconds and anchored the winning 4x100 meter relay that ran a new meet record and provisional qualifying time of 41.50.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE – Geneseo
Alyssa Smith (Rochester, NY/Brighton) - junior
Alyssa Smith (Rochester, NY/Brighton) - junior
Junior Alyssa Smith (Rochester, NY) was a double winner at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships to earned Outstanding Athlete honors. Smith won the 800 meters with an NCAA provisional and meet record time of 2:13.73 and the 1,500 with an NCAA provisional time of 4:37.58. It was the first outdoor individual titles for Smith in her career.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE – Brockport
Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) - senior
Ray Lund (Thiells, NY) won two individual titles at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships as he was voted the Outstanding Male Field Athlete for the second straight year. Lund won his third straight SUNYAC discus championship, throwing 140 feet, four inches (42.77 meters) and he picked up his second straight SUNYAC hammer throw title. In the hammer, Lund posted an ECAC championship-qualifying effort with a throw of 175 feet, seven inches (53.52 meters) to claim the title by 25 feet, eight inches. He also posted an ECAC championship-qualifying effort in the shot put, where he placed third with an effort of 49 feet, 6 1/4 inches (15.09 meters).

Kacy Boburka (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley)
Sophomore Kacy Boburka (Binghamton, NY) finished in the top three in four different events to be named the SUNYAC Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Championship Meet. She won the individual title in the long jump with a leap of 5.20 meters, defeating the field by over two inches. She placed second in the high jump clearing 1.60 meters. Boburka took third in the Javelin with a toss of 32.25 meters and in the triple jump with a mark of 11.21 meters. She also placed seventh in the shot put (10.85 meters).
