SUNYAC Athletes of the Week Selected
The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the athletes of the week for the week of January 31-February 6th.
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER – Geneseo
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER – Geneseo
Jonathan Redlick (Biggar, Sadkatchewan), junior forward
Junior Jonathan Redlick (Biggar, Sadkatchewan) was part of four of Geneseo’s five goals in a pair of wins over the weekend to earn SUNYAC ice hockey player of the week. Redlick scored a goal and an assist, including the game-winner with 7:15 to play on the power play to give the #7 Geneseo men's hockey team a 2-1 win over visiting Fredonia on Friday. On Saturday, Redlick netted his eighth of the season giving Geneseo a 2-0 lead over Buffalo State before assisting on the game winner at 18:31 of the second period for the 3-2 final. Geneseo has won four straight games for the first time this season improving to 15-5-2.

ICE HOCKEY GOALIE – Plattsburgh
Josh Leis (Kitchener, Ontario), sophomore
Josh Leis (Kitchener, Ontario) made 43 stops and recorded a .935 save percentage as Plattsburgh posted two wins on the week. He recorded 27 saves, including 12 in the third period, to preserve a 2-1 win against Middlebury. On Saturday, he made 16 saves in the Cardinals' 6-2 win over Morrisville, allowing Plattsburgh to move into third-place in the SUNYAC standings.

Forward Zachary Vit (Villanova, PA) assisted the game-winner vs. Fredonia on Friday and was in on all three goals in the win over Buffalo State on Saturday. Vit picked up the game-winning assist with 7:15 to play in the 2-1 win over the Blue Devils when he tipped the initial save back to the left faceoff circle. Geneseo scored three times on the power play in the second period against the Bengals for the 3-2 win. Vit opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the period. At the 1:16 mark, Geneseo took a 2-0 lead with an assist from Vit and Geneseo got the game winner at 18:31 when Vit tallied his 20th assist on the year.

MEN'S BASKETBALL – Brockport
Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte), junior guard
Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) averaged 25.3 points per game while making 14 of his 20 three-pointers, and hitting 60 percent of his shots from the field during a 3-0 week for Brockport to earn SUNYAC men’s basketball player of the week. Williams scored a career-high 30 points on 9 of 12 shooting, including making 5 of his 6 three-pointers during Friday's 93-77 win over Plattsburgh. Against Potsdam, Williams scored seven of his game-high 26 points during an opening 19-0 run. Williams has surpassed 20 points in eight of his last 10 games.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL – Buffalo State
Barb Kiliszek (Depew, NY/Lancaster), junior guard
Barb Kiliszek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) led the Bengals to a pair of upset wins on the weekend over the SUNYAC's second and third-place teams. Kiliszek averaged 21.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 4.0 steals in a three game week. She netted a career-high 28 points in Saturday's win over New Paltz, added 17 points and seven steals in a victory over Oneonta, and had 20 points and nine boards in a tight loss at undefeated Geneseo.

Dan Brigano (Utica, NY/Proctor), senior
Dan Brigano (Utica, NY/Proctor) captured titles on both the one- and three-meter boards during Saturday's Oswego Invitational, breaking his own school record on the three-meter with a score of 472.75 points for 11 dives. The old mark was 470.20 points, set in 2010. Brigano also posted an NCAA National Championship-qualifying score of 465.15 on the one-meter, a season-best for Brigano and the second-highest score for 11 dives in school history behind Brigano's 480.90 points set in 2009.

For the second week Fredonia State senior Nick Guarino (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) is the SUNYAC men’s track athlete of the week. Guarino won the 1,000 meters during the Mount Union Jim Wuske Invitational with a SUNYAC conference record time of 2:25.99. He held the old mark of 2:27.59 set in 2010.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE – Plattsburgh
Brittany Mailander (Eastport, NY/Eastport), freshman
Plattsburgh freshman Brittany Mailander (Eastport, NY/Eastport) was one of the Cardinals' top contributors at St. Lawrence University's Super Dual Saturday, helping Plattsburgh to wins over Nazareth and Oswego in head-to-head competition. Mailander hit an ECAC-qualifying mark and set a new school record previously set in 1987, winning the 55 meter hurdles in 8.86. She also was part of the 4x400 winning relay team and finished fourth in the 200 meter dash.

Colin Keenan (Rochester, NY/Aquinas), junior
Junior Colin Kennan (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) set a school record with a score of 3, 025 points at the Ithaca Pentathalon to earn the SUNYAC male field athlete of the week. His led the field in the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters to earn 740 points. Kennan’s marks in the other events included: 60 meter hurdles (9.29), long jump (5.81m), shot put (9.14m) and 1000 meters (3:04.34).

Fredonia sophomore Chelsea Caruso (Falconer, NY/Falconer) set a school record in the pole vault to earn the SUNYAC women’s field athlete of the week.
