Allen Named USTFCCCA National Assistant Coach of the Year
Buffalo State’s Markus Allen was named the National Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for his work heading the Bengals’ sprinting corps.
Allen mentored junior sprinter Erica Johnson to a NCAA crown in the 55-meter dash. For Buffalo State, it’s the school’s first indoor national women’s champion.
Allen’s sprinters scored 91 of the team’s 124 points at SUNYAC Championships and all 50 of the team’s points at ECACs. In his fifth year at the program, his athletes recorded the fastest D-III 4x200-meter relay of the season that was also a school and ECAC record, the third fastest D-III 200-meter time, and the top-ranked mark at 55 meters.
While not considered for this award, Allen also helped men Justin Allen to a 400-meter national title and Xavier Mateen to a share of the NCAA 55-meter crown.
