Athletes of the Week Announced by the Conference
The State University of New York Athletic Conference has announced the Athletes of the Week for week of February 7-13.

ICE HOCKEY PLAYER – Buffalo State
Nicholas Petriello (St. Catharines, ONT/Holy Cross), senior forward
Senior Nicholas Petriello (St. Catharines, ONT) helped the Bengals' complete the season sweep against Plattsburgh and Potsdam and in the process became Buffalo State's all-time leading scorer with 133 career points (52 goals, 81 assists), surpassing the previous record of 131 points. Petriello assisted on the Bengals third goal in a 4-3 victory over No.9-ranked Plattsburgh and set the school scoring record when he netted the lone goal of the first period and in the 3-1 win against Potsdam.

Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC/Huntsville Muskoka), senior
Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC) posted his second career shut out Friday as he made 25 saves to secure the 4-0 conference win over Cortland. On Saturday, he posted 37 saves in the 5-2 upset victory over #1 nationally ranked SUNY Oswego. On the week he made 62 stops in 64 shots faced for a .969 save percentage, improving his record to 9-10-1 in net, and the Mustangs to a program best 11-10-1 overall, 8-5-1 SUNYAC record.

Jamie Nelson (Stratford, ONT) tallied a goal and assist in the 5-2 upset victory over #1 nationally ranked Oswego on Saturday. He scored his fourth of the season 1:11 into the third period to give Morrisville State the 4-1 lead over the Lakers and assisted on the Mustangs fifth score midway through the period to secure the conference victory. The win gave the Mustangs a program best 11-10-1 record.

Derek Hahn (Youngsville, NY/Sullivan West), senior center
Derek Hahn (Youngsville, NY/Sullivan West) recorded back-to-back double-doubles in leading the Red Dragons to a pair of wins this past weekend versus Geneseo and Brockport. He finished with 11 points and 12 boards in the 64-62 win over Geneseo on Friday. On Saturday, Hahn lead a second half comeback against Brockport, scoring 23 points including 17 after halftime, while collecting a career high 20 boards. Hahn also surpassed 1,000 collegiate points having spent two years at SUNYIT before transferring to Oneonta. Hahn has recorded 11 double-doubles this season.
Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke, NY/Hoosic Valley)
Oswego State junior forward Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke, NY/Hoosic Valley) averaged 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in a pair of Laker wins against Plattsburgh and Potsdam to clinch a spot in the SUNYAC Playoffs. In Friday's win, Ryan poured in 20 points and grabbed six boards. Against the Bears on Saturday, Ryan pulled down a career-high 16 boards and paired that with 17 points for her third double-double of the season.
Austin Brennan (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville), sophomore
Austin Brennan was named the Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Championship Meet after winning two events, finishing third in another and swimming on two winning relays to lead the men's swimming and diving team to their 13th consecutive SUNYAC championship with 854 points. Brennan won the 100-yard butterfly (52.00) and the 200 backstroke (1:54.80), finished third in the 100 back (53.64), teamed with juniors Josh Kaplan, Ken Pink and Dan Strothenke to win the 400 medley relay (3:29.40) and with sophomore Frank Schiappa, junior Aaron Wagner and Strothenke to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:07.95. Brennan is the first Blue Wave recipient to earn the honor since the 2004-05 season when Dan Allan, current Buffalo State Head Coach, won the distinction.

Michelle Rodriguez (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown), senior
Senior Michelle Rodriguez (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) won three events and swam on two winning relays to earn Female Swimmer of the Meet honors for the third straight year and lead the Geneseo women's swimming and diving team to their fourth consecutive SUNYAC championship with 771.5 points. Rodriguez won the 500-yard freestyle in an NCAA provisional time of 5:00.12, won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.13 after posting an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:52.08 in the prelims and swam a provisional time of 51.44 in winning the 100 freestyle. Rodriguez teamed with Jennifer Anthone, Lauren Boyce and Elyssa Max to win the 200 free relay in a provisional time of 1:36.77 and with Max, Corinne Vairo and Anthone to finish second in the 400 free relay in a provisional time of 3:32.13.

Wills DeMoulin (Pittsford, NY/Mendon), senior
Wills DeMoulin (Pittsford, NY/Mendon) earned Male Diver of the Meet at the 2011 SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships, when he won both diving events with a 455.10 on the one-meter board and a score of 489.75 on the three-meter board. Both marks met NCAA qualifying standards. The one-meter board was a close margin with DeMoulin earning the top mark by a difference of .75 points, while he held a 29.80 point advantage on the three-meter.
WOMEN’S DIVING – Fredonia
Sarah Ficarro (Owego, NY/Owego), sophomore
Fredonia sophomore Sarah Ficarro (Owego, NY) earned the Female Diver of the Championship Meet honor for the second consecutive year; it is also the sixth straight year a Blue Devil has earned the award. Ficarro successfully defended her SUNYAC 3-meter diving title with a NCAA qualifying score of 478.85 points outscoring 13 other women entered in the conference championships. She finished second on the 1-meter board with a qualifying score of 437.50 points, just 2.6 points behind first place.

Justin Allen (Mt. Vernon) helped set three new Buffalo State records competing at the DI Boston University Valentine Invitational. He placed third in the 400-meter dash with an automatic NCAA qualifying time and SUNYAC record of 47.64 seconds, posting the second fastest DIII time in the country this season. He added a school record placing fourth adding another SUNYAC record in the 200-meter dash (21.63), and also teamed up with Devyn Hollenbeck, B.J. Murray and Jimmy Campbell to break a 31-year old Buffalo State record with an NCAA provisional time of 3:17.91.

Erica Johnson (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR), junior
Erica Johnson (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR) won the 55-meter dash at the Baldwin-Wallace mid-February meet with an NCAA provisional time of 7.28 seconds. She also ran a leg of the winning 4x200-meter relay that clocked 1:47.42 to earn the SUNYAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.

Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland), senior
For the third time in four weeks Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) has been named the SUNYAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Lund won the weight throw competition at the Robert Kane Invitational Meet at Cornell University Saturday with an NCAA Championships automatic qualifying standard throw of 18.85 meters (61 feet, 10 1/4 inches). The throw for Lund was a personal best as he eclipsed the 18-meter mark with five of his six throws in the competition. The senior also finished fourth in the shot put with a heave of 15.03 meters (49' 3 ¾”).

Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY) placed third in the weight throw with a 15.53 meter performance (50-11 1/2 feet) during Saturday's Robert Kane Invitational Meet at Cornell University. She also was 12th in the shot put (10.19 meters, 33-5 1/2 feet) at Cornell.
