Rebecca Monteith earns ECAC weekly honors
The ECAC has selected Oneonta State senior Rebecca Monteith as its Player of the Week in women’s lacrosse. Monteith earns the honor after leading Oneonta to a 1-1 record last week while becoming the women’s lacrosse all time leading scorer.
Monteith broke the all-time scoring record last Tuesday in leading Oneonta to a 17-11 win at SUNY Potsdam. In the game, she recorded eight goals, which tied her single game high, and one assist for nine points. That performance gave her 212 career goals and 266 career points, which moved her past the old marks of 209 goals and 264 points.
The record Monteith broke was set 25 years ago by Oneonta State athletics Hall of Famer, Susanne Murray Masi ’87.
This past Saturday in a 13-11 loss at Fredonia, Monteith added six more goals to her total to give her 218 goals and 272 points currently. She has seven games remaining in this season excluding any postseason, which means, if she stays healthy and maintains her current pace, she could go well beyond 300 points, setting a mark that could stand for quite some time.
The women’s lacrosse team is currently 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC. Monteith is leading the team with 40 goals and 13 assists for 53 points. As a freshman, Monteith broke Murray Masi’s single season scoring mark by putting up 70 goals and 13 assists for 83 points. Monteith also leads the team with 32 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers while being second on the team with 30 draw controls.
