Buffalo State Names Shadowens Head Cross Country, Assistant Track & Field Coach
BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State has announced the hiring of 2009 alum Ray Shadowens as its full-time head men's and women's cross country and assistant track and field coach. Shadowens will officially begin on March 2.

Shadowens most recently coached at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, serving as an assistant with the men's and women's cross country and track and field teams. He also has previously served as an assistant coach at Bates College in Maine and Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.

Shadowens possesses USTFCCCA certifications as an endurance event specialist and in track and field program management. He is also Level I certified and Level II in jumps by USA Track and Field, in addition to holding a Level I sports performance coach certification from USA Weightlifting.Â

Shadowens, a native of Arp, Texas, competed as a student-athlete at Buffalo State for three seasons after transferring from Division I Stephen F. Austin. A hurdler and decathlete as a Bengal, he was a SUNYAC champion in the 110-meter hurdles and was an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 55-meter hurdles.

Shadowens completed his bachelor's degree in hospitality and business administration from Buffalo State in 2009 and earned his master's in sports management from Lasell College in 2014.
