SUNYAC selects week three fall Athletes of the Week
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected top athletes for the third week of the fall season. Eleven athletes from five different institutions have been recognized for their accomplishments during the week of Sept. 8-14.
MALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK – Adam Murphy
Geneseo, SO (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst)
Adam Murphy was the top Division-III finisher in a predominantly Division-I field at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, Saturday, at Penn State. He crossed the 5.2-mile finish line 30th (26:48) in a field of 133 runners and 11 teams that included D-I No. 8 Syracuse, D-I No. 29 Georgetown as well as D-III No. 19 Cortland. The Knights finished sixth in the team standings, ahead of the eighth-place Red Dragons.
FEMALE RUNNER OF THE WEEK – Cassie Goodman
Geneseo, SR
Cassie Goodman was the top Division-III finisher in the predominantly Division-I field at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, Saturday, at Penn State. She crossed the 6,000-meter finish line 17th (21:53) in a field of 130 runners and 10 teams that included No. 13 Syracuse, No. 20 West Virginia and the No. 29 Nittany Lions, as well as Cortland.
FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Gabby SteinÂ
Cortland, SO, F (Endwell, NY/High School:Â Maine-Endwell)
Gabby Stein collected a goal and an assist in #19 Cortland's come-from-behind 3-1 win versus Ithaca last Wednesday in its only game of the week. Stein assisted on the game-tying goal at 58:29 then tallied the game-winning goal on a rebound at 67:33. So far this season, Stein has scored in every game and leads Cortland (3-1) with 14 points on six goals and two assists.

FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Lindsay FarrellÂ
Brockport, SO, G (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker)
Lindsay Farrell had 32 saves on the week, with a 10.67 save average per game and a 1.67 goals against average in three games.

MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Alexis ArchillaÂ
Plattsburgh, SO, F (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley)
During a 2-0 week for the Plattsburgh State men's soccer team, freshman forward Alexis Archilla struck for four goals including two each against Castleton State and Union. The Warwick, N.Y., product's second score in Wednesday's 4-1 win over Castleton came on a splendid bicycle kick while his first tally against Union on Saturday proved to be the game winner. Archilla ranks first in the SUNYAC in five statistical categories including goals (six), points (13), game-winning goals (three), points per game (2.17) and goals per game (1.00).

MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tim BeauvaisÂ
Cortland, SR, G (Hilton, NY/Hilton)
Tim Beauvais recorded a 3-0 week with three shutouts as the Red Dragons improved to 4-2 on the season. In a 1-0 win versus #14 and previously unbeaten Montclair St. on Wednesday, Beauvais made six saves. The Red Dragons then defeated RIT on the road, 1-0, in double overtime as Beauvais stopped four shots. He concluded the week with a three-save shutout in a 2-0 win versus Ithaca on Sunday. For the week, he recorded 13 saves and posted a 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 GAA, extending his scoreless streak to 375:25 over the span of five games. For the season, Beauvais, who has played every minute in goal, has a 4-2 record with a 1.14 GAA, a .794 save percentage and four consecutive shutouts.
WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Cayli Carmona
Brockport, SR, F (Rochester/Greece Olympia)
Senior forward from Brockport tallied five points this week after she scored two goals and had an assist in Brockport's home opening game of the season. Carmona leads the conference in five categories and is tied at the top in two others.

TENNIS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEE - Marylen Santos (Jamaica, NY/St Francis Prep)

Geneseo junior Marylen Santos has been selected the Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Santos posted a personal 4-0 record during the week after winning two first singles matches and a pair of first doubles contests with junior partner Cat Crummey. The duo blanked Brockport's top doubles team of Lauren Bohman and Rachel Lamont 8-0 on Sept. 9, leading the Knights to a 9-0 sweep. Santos then returned to the court to sweep Lamont 6-0, 6-1 at first singles. On Sept. 12, Geneseo traveled to New Paltz where the Knights handed the Hawks their first loss of the season, a 7-2 defeat led by Santons' 6-3, 6-3 sweep of Olivia Ammirati at first singles. She and Crummey teamed up for an 8-5 first doubles triumph vs. Jessica Schmidt and Veronika Paikin.

Danielle Schimitt posted her second shutout against RPI on Thursday night in a 1-0 win. Schmitt posted six saves in the victory. She now has a .23 goals allowed average and a .952 save percentage which currently leads the SUNYAC.
VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Morgan Roessler (SO) Â
New Paltz, SO, MH (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa)
New Paltz sophomore middle hitter Morgan Roessler helped the Hawks go 4-0 for the week and win their eighth Hawks Invitational title, earning Tournament MVP honors in the process. She posted a .351 (38-11-77) hitting percentage across 12 sets played, averaging 3.17 kills per set, 1.00 block per set and 0.17 digs per set. Roessler boasted 13 kills, a .423 hitting percentage and four block assists in the Hawks' first match of the weekend on Friday against SUNY Fredonia, leading New Paltz to a 3-1 win. She then hit .667 (5-1-6) in a 3-0 triumph over Mount Saint Mary College on Friday night, playing in just one set. Roessler floored nine kills and totaled six blocks (one solo, five assist) in a 3-1 victory over Farleigh Dickinson University-College at Florham on Saturday morning before hitting .450 off 11 kills and two errors in 20 total attempts in the Hawks' 3-0 win over New York University on Saturday afternoon. For the season, Roessler ranks sixth in the SUNYAC in hitting percentage (.328) and ninth in the conference in blocks per set (0.92). New Paltz (10-2), which is riding a nine-match winning streak, squares off with the Stevens Institute of Technology next on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Hawk Center.
