SUNYAC men's and women's cross country compete at NCAA Championship
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) was represented at the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship this past weekend. The race was hosted by Wilmington College at the Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio.
The top SUNYAC finisher on the women's side was Brockport's senior Rachel Malone, representing as an individual automatic qualifier. She finished in 18th place with a time of 22:14.2. She received All-American honors for the third year in a row. The top 35 runners at nationals earn All-America recognition.
The SUNYAC women's programs were led by Geneseo, who finished fifth overall out of 32 teams at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country National Championships. Senior Cassie Goodman finished in 20th-place with a time of 22:18.7 in the 6K, earning her an All-American selection. Geneseo had two more runners that finished in the top 50; junior Jacquie Huben placed 40th (22:33.6), followed closely by sophomore Marissa Bellusci in 43rd (22:37.6).
The Geneseo ladies were followed by Oneonta (24th) and Cortland (26th).
On the men's side, Cortland senior Nick Marcantonio finished 23rd to earn All-America honors for the third-straight year while helping Cortland finish in 19th place. He finished the 8,000 meter course in 24:31.7. Senior Jarred Iacovelli finished in 43rd place in 24:47.3.
The Geneseo men's team placed 27th. Fredonia's Zakk Hess represented the program, finishing 133rd in a field of 280 runners, crossing the finish line with a time of 25:33.9.
