SUNYAC Celebrates National Student Athlete Day
The State University of New York Athletic Conference and member institutions are proud to celebrate National STUDENT-Athlete Day on April 6, a day to honor student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics while making significant contributions to the community.
"Student-athletes are the centerpiece of the SUNYAC and we are pleased to recognize them on National STUDENT-Athlete Day," said Commissioner Dr. Damore. "The SUNYAC has shown a serious commitment to student-athletes since the Conference was first formed in 1958 and this is a day where we can say thank-you."
The SUNYAC, comprised of 10 institutions and one associate member, provides opportunities in 20 conference sports. One of the oldest small college conferences in the nation, the SUNYAC embarks upon its sixth decade with the same commitment to athletic and academic excellence that has remained the league's guiding light since its formation over 50 years ago.
National STUDENT-Athlete Day was created in 1987 by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) and Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society. Currently, it is presented with The NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). National STUDENT-Athlete Day is one of America's strongest endeavors to increase the positive virtues of sport and the recognition of student-athletes nationwide.
