Conference Recognizes Athletes of the Week
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Cortland
Alyson Dalton, junior
The Cortland women's cross country team took five of the top-10 spots at the Jack Daniels Invitational, led by junior Alyson Dalton (Sherrill, NY/V-V-S) who placed second out of 58 runners and is the SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Cortland won the team title as Dalton finished the 4,000 meter course with a time of 15.05.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Brockport
Matt Avery, senior
Senior Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) ran a personal best 8K at the Highlander Invitational, shaving 30 seconds off his previous best time, to win his first individual title of the season and earn SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. Avery covered the course in a time of 25:08, recording the second fastest 8K in school history, finishing 2.2 second shy of the school record. He placed first out of 146 runners and four seconds ahead of the next runner.
FIELD HOCKEY -Oneonta State
Ainsley Stoll, senior midfield
Senior Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville) hit the back of the cage four times in a 4-2 win against Houghton to earn her second SUNYAC Field Hockey Player of the Week honor this season. Stoll's first goal came in the 34th minute, making her the first player to reach 100 career points for the field hockey program since 1985. She notched the other three goals in the second half after Oneonta was trailing 2-1 at the half. It was the second time this season that Stoll registered three goals in a game and currently leads the Red Dragons with 12 goals. Stoll previously earned the conference player of the week on September 6.
Joe Marino, senior goalkeeper
Senior Joe Marino (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) posted a pair of shutouts to become the first Brockport goalie with seven consecutive shutouts and this week's SUNYAC men's soccer player of the week. Marino made six saves in the 3-0 victory over Plattsburgh, handing the Cardinals their first loss of the season on Friday. He posted three saves to blank Potsdam 3-0 Saturday afternoon to etch his name into the Golden Eagle record book. With the two shutouts, Marino extended his scoreless streak to 680 minutes as Brockport remains undefeated at 6-0-2 overall. Marino previously earned the conference player of the week on September 13.
WOMEN'S SOCCER - Cortland
Bridgette DeSantis, junior forward
Junior Bridgette DeSantis (Rotterdam, NY/Mohonasen) has been selected as the SUNYAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week after leading Cortland to a road win in its only game of the week. DeSantis scored the 11th minute to give the Red Dragons a 1-0 win over nationally 13th-ranked Ithaca on Saturday. The goal was DeSantis' third game winner of the season as Cortland improves to 4-2-2 with the victory.
Sheena Asibey, junior middle hitter
Cortland junior Sheena Asibey (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) led the Red Dragons to a 4-1 record on the week and a second place standing in the SUNYAC East Division to earn the conference volleyball player of the week for the week ending September 26. Asibey recorded a career-high 19 kills in a non-league win at Clarkson to start the week and proceed to register double-digit kills in wins vs. Oneonta (16), Potsdam (11) and Plattsburgh (11). The middle hitter had a solid week with 65 kills on 137 attempts to post a .336 hitting percent to go with 13 blocks.
