SUNYAC Names Athletes of the Week
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Geneseo
Marissa Liberati, sophomore
Marissa Liberati (Manchester, NY/Red Jacket) won the individual title at the Women's Cross Country SUNYAC Championship by covering the six-kilometer course in a time of 22:18 and leading the nationally sixth-ranked Geneseo Blue Knights to a second place team finish. Her winning time was 16 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Liberati became the 30th Geneseo woman to join the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - Geneseo
Lee Berube, junior
Lee Berube (Putnam Station, NY/Ticonderoga) won the individual title at the Men's Cross Country SUNYAC Championship for the second straight year by covering the eight-kilometers in a time of 24:55. He led the nationally third-ranked Geneseo Blue Knights to the team title for the second consecutive and eighth of the past 11 years. Berube crossed the finish line five seconds ahead of the runner-up.
FIELD HOCKEY - Oneonta
Leslie Dauphinais, senior goalie
Oneonta senior Leslie Dauphinais (Harpursville, NY/Harpursville) led the Red Dragons to two overtime wins to finish the season 11-9 overall. It is the first winning season for Oneonta field hockey since 2005. Dauphinais made nine saves in a 3-2 win over Utica before stopping six shots in a 2-1 victory against nationally ranked #17 Juniata, snapping the Eagles' 12-game win streak.

Chris Taylor (Liverpool, England/Cardinal Heenan) had three points during a 1-0-1 week for Plattsburgh. He scored the game's only goal on a free kick in a 1-0 win over Clarkson in the second half. The senior assisted on the Cardinals goal in the 33rd minute for a 1-0 lead in the SUNYAC quarterfinals before ending in a 1-1 draw with Geneseo. Taylor netted a shot in the penalty kick shootout as the Cardinals advanced with a 5-3 decision.

In a 1-0 victory at Wilkes on Tuesday, DeSantis scored the lone goal in the fifth minute as Cortland closed its regular season. In a 1-0 win versus Geneseo in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals on Saturday, DeSantis again scored the game's only goal, in the 65th, as the Red Dragons advanced to the conference semifinals. For the season, DeSantis leads Cortland with 18 points on a team-best nine goals with seven being game-winning scores.

VOLLEYBALL - New Paltz
Dana Kindelmann, senior middle hitter
Senior Dana Kindelmann (Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) led the Hawks to a 4-0 weekend at the Skidmore Invitational where she was named the Tournament MVP. New Paltz captured the invitational's championship, holding the tie-breaker over SUNY Cortland, who also went 4-0 on the weekend. Kindelmann recorded just one error in 54 swings on the week posting a .537 attack percentage. She totaled 30 kills and 19 blocks in 11 games as the Hawks build a six-match win streak. In that streak, New Paltz has not lost a set.

Mark Friesen, freshman goalie
Mark Friesan (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial) earned a victory in his first collegiate appearance between the pipes with a 3-2 decision against Cortland. He made 25 saves against the Red Dragons and followed up with a solid performance of 33 saves in the 3-0 loss to nationally ranked Oswego. The third goal allowed was scored into an empty net and he finished the two games with a .935 save percentage.

First year Matt Distler (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) won three events in Cortland's dual-meet victory over Div. II Le Moyne College and won two events in Cortland's win versus Buffalo State. Against Le Moyne, he won the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.16), 100-yard freestyle (49.36) and 50-yard freestyle (22.57). Against Buffalo St., he won the 50-yard freestyle (22.51) and 100-yard butterfly (56.78). The previous week, Distler had the third-best time in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.54) and 100-yard freestyle (49.54) at the NYU Invitational.

Oswego State women's swimmer Nikki Dean (Lansing, NY/Lansing) was undefeated in the five individual events that she competed in this week against RIT and Oneonta. Dean was a triple-event winner against the Tigers as she took first place in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:14.20, the 200 IM with a mark of 2:20.58, and the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:28.23. Dean recorded first-place finishes versus Oneonta in the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle events with times of 2:04.64 and 5:30.03, respectively.

Travis Burke (Massepequa, NY/Massepequa) has been selected as the first SUNYAC Men's Diving athlete of the week for the 2010-2011 season. Burke won both 1-meter diving (264.60 pts.) and 3-meter diving (296.95 pts.) in Cortland's dual-meet victory over Div. II Le Moyne College. The previous week at the NYU Invitational, Burke finished second on the 3-meter board (262.73 pts.) and was fourth on the 1-meter board (255.83 pts.)

Quagliana's one-meter score of 262.95 earned her a spot in the NCAA Division III Championships, and her score was nearly 40 points better than the runner-up. Quagliana's strong diving performances helped Brockport's women place second overall. Last week, she also won the three-meter event at Fredonia.
