Fredonia Takes Diving Honors; Geneseo and New Paltz Earn Swimmer of the Week
Swimming and diving and indoor track and field rejoined men's and women's basketball and men’s ice hockey as the SUNYAC winter campaigns returned to full strength during the week of Jan. 9-15, 2012.
Fredonia swept the Diver of the Week awards while Geneseo and New Paltz each had a Swimmer of the Week.
MEN’S DIVING – Fredonia
Ryan Fuller (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), junior
Ryan Fuller won both boards in Blue Devils' 211-78 win over Nazareth. He attained NCAA provisional qualifying status with 287.15 points in the 3-meter event and his winning 1-meter score was 271.25 points.
WOMEN’S DIVING – Fredonia
Ashley Keller (Lockport, NY/Lockport), sophomore
Ashley Keller turned in a career best performance and provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet with a 273.15 off the one-meter board for a first place finish, placing ahead of All-American teammate Sarah Ficarro. Keller took second on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 254.25.
MEN’S SWIMMING – Geneseo
Ken Pink (Pittsford, NY/Sutherland), senior
Senior Ken Pink won four individual events and swam on two winning relays to lead the Geneseo men's swimming and diving team to a 254-78 win over RIT and a 227-105 victory over host New Paltz in a tri-meet on Saturday. Pink won the 200 (2:01.35) and 400 (4:32.10) IM events, the 100 (1:01.17) and 200 (2:15.37) breaststroke events and swam on the winning 200 (1:39.17) and 400 (3:39.59) medley relays.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING – New Paltz
Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown)
New Paltz junior Yuka Suzuka won three individual events and participated on two event-winning relays, as the Hawks topped four-time defending SUNYAC champion SUNY Geneseo, 182-150, and the Rochester Institute of Technology, 255-77, from Friday through Saturday in a tri-meet. Individually, she won the 100 backstroke (59.52), the 400 individual medley (4:53.23) and the 200 backstroke (2:11.69) while placing second in the 100 fly (1:01.12). In addition, Suzuka swam the backstroke leg on New Paltz's event-winning 200 medley (27.93, 1:51.47) and 400 medley (1:00.02, 4:06.74) relays.
