Four SUNYAC Athletes Honored by ECAC
A big congratulations is in order for four State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) athletes who were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for a great week in their individual sports. Being named ECAC Athlete of the Week is an achievement in itself and is an outstanding way to represent an individual's team, school, and the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
Two male track and field athletes have been recognized by the ECAC for their outstanding hard work and dedication to the sport. SUNY Oneonta sophomore Joe Carr and junior Glenn Forsythe from SUNY Cortland were the two selected. Both had a phenomenal week and will look to continue that trend for the rest of the season and into the SUNYAC championships.
In addition, two SUNYAC divers made a splash this week as freshman Alec Fleet from Buffalo State, and Emily Wanamaker a senior from Geneseo were awarded Diver of the Week for the ECAC. This is Fleet's third time as diver of the week for SUNYAC and continues to be one of the divers who are considered a favorite to win both the 1 and 3 meter dives at the SUNYAC championships. Wanamaker continues her dominant streak in diving as she has now won the diver of the week award for SUNYAC four times this year. She will look to finish in the top three in both the 1 meter dive and 3 meter dive during the SUNYAC championships.
Male Track Athlete of the week
Joe Carr – SUNY Oneonta
Sophomore, Burnt Hills, NY
Carr had season best performances in in both the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes at the Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell. Carr won the 200 meter with a time of 22.26, which once converted, became 21.87 seconds, which moved him into second nationally in Division III. His time is currently the fastest in the SUNYAC and ECAC. Carr's performance in the 60 meter was a season best time of 7.08, which placed him third in the event.
Male Field Athlete of the Week
Glen Forsythe – SUNY Cortland
Junior, Uniondale, NY
Forsythe finished second out of 19 competitors in the triple jump and second of 27 in the long jump at the Cornell University Kane Invitational. His triple jump of 14.65 meters (48 feet, 0.75 inches) currently ranks him third nationally in Div. III, while his long jump of 6.96 meters (22 feet, 10 inches) places him 14th nationally. Both efforts are also ECAC qualifiers.
Female Diver of the Week
Emily Wanamaker – SUNY Geneseo
Senior, Camillus, NY
Wanamaker took top honors in both diving events in the Knights' victory over Buffalo State on Saturday. On the three-meter board, she set an 11-dive school record with a score of 446.85, which was an NCAA Zone qualifier by over 36 points. Her six-dive score of 289.05 on the one-meter exceeded the Zone qualifier minimum by almost 35 points.
Male Diver of the Week
Alec Fleet – Buffalo State
Freshman, Addison, NY
Fleet swept the men's diving events in a dual meet at Geneseo, setting a pair of Buffalo State and Geneseo pool records in the process. Fleet's one-meter, six-dive score of 365.25 also set a new SUNYAC record. He also won the three-meter competition with an 11-dive mark of 572.45. Both performances were NCAA zone qualifying scores.
