SUNY Oneonta Captures 2014 ECAC Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Title

TROY, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta men's track and field team claimed the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Friday at Ned Harkness Field and Track on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). SUNY Oneonta combined for a team score of 63 points, besting second place Bates College (60) by three points. RPI and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) shared third place honors with a team score of 46.
SUNY Oneonta had nine top-eight finishes, two of which were for first. Sophomore Joe Carr (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led the way for SUNY Oneonta by recording a pair of first place finishes. Carr won the 200 meter dash outright with a time of 21.45 meters; he also finished ninth in the 100-meter dash, and contributed to the top-place finish for the winning 4x400 meter relay team with a time of 3:18.63. The remaining members of the winning 4x400 meter relay team consisted of Micah Patterson (So, Plattsburgh, N.Y.), Rob Farrell (Jr, Carmel, N.Y.), and Mike Engesser (Fr, Medford, N.Y.). Farrell added a third place finish in the 400 meter hurdles for the Red Dragons, and senior Joe Fox (West Nyack, N.Y.) took second in the discus and shot put events with throws of 48.64 meters and 16.11 meters, respectively. Pat Weinart (Schenevus, N.Y.) claimed runner-up honors in the hammer throw with a mark of 61.12 meters, and James Alviene (So, East Greenbush, N.Y.) took second in the 110 meter high hurdles.
Buffalo State and Brockport finished in the top 10 team rankings while Cortland, Oswego and Fredonia were 12th, 19th and 43rd respectively
