SUNYAC Announces Athletes of the Week
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) recognizes 12 athletes from six member institutions as SUNYAC Athletes of the Week for their performances in their respective sports during the week of March 31 through April 6.

Brandon McClain, Cortland Coram / Longwood View Full Bio McClain did not allow a run over 12 and a third innings in two SUNYAC victories during the week. He threw a complete-game three-hit shutout with six strikeouts and two walks in a seven-inning 4-0 win over Plattsburgh Monday. On Sunday, he allowed four hits and a walk and struck out three in five and a third innings in an 8-0 win over Brockport. McClain is 6-0 with a 1.41 ERA in eight starts this spring. |

Christopher Orlando, Oneonta Putnam Valley / Putnam Valley View Full Bio Orlando had a huge week offensively for the Red Dragons, who went 3-3 overall, including 3-1 in SUNYAC games. For the week, he hit .556 and slugged 1.056. He drove in 14 runs and had an on-base percentage of .625. He had two, three-hit games last week and had four games where he drove in three or more runs. Orlando gathered four doubles, one triple, one homerun, 14 RBI and two stolen bases on the week. |

Sarah Salamone, Cortland Liverpool / Cicero-North Syracuse View Full Bio Salamone went 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA in four starts for the Red Dragons. She allowed one run in five innings in a 9-1 win over Plattsburgh and gave up three hits and two runs, one earned, in five and two-thirds innings in a 4-2 win at Ithaca. She then tossed a three-hitter in a 6-2 win at New Paltz and a four-hitter with five strikeouts in a 6-1 victory at SUNYAC leader Oneonta. Salamone is 6-0 in 10 appearances this spring. |

Jamie Whittam, Oneonta Saugerties / Saugerties View Full Bio Whittam batted .450 (9-for-20) with two doubles and lead-off homerun as Oneonta went 5-1 for the week, sweeping Geneseo and Oswego and splitting with Cortland. She had a .700 slugging percentage and .522 on-base percentage in the six games. She also had a 1.000 fielding percentage at second base with 7 putouts and 15 assists. Jamie currently is batting .393 overall. |

Matt Rakoczy, Cortland Clifton Park / Albany Academy View Full Bio Rakoczy scored both game-winning goals in a pair of one-goal victories for the eighth-ranked Red Dragons (8-3, 2-0 SUNYAC) last week. In an 8-7 overtime win at 11th-ranked Ithaca on Wednesday, Rakoczy netted the game0winner 1:20 into OT as Cortland came back from a 4-1 halftime deficit. Rakoczy then tallied the game-winning score with 4:44 remaining in regulation in an 11-10 triumph versus Plattsburgh on Saturday. Cortland came back from an 8-3 deficit in the game. For the week, he scored six points on five goals and one assist. |

Ryan Duffy, Potsdam Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool View Full Bio Duffy continued to put up strong numbers in two wins for Potsdam. The senior stopped all three shots he faced in just 15 minutes of action against Canton on Tuesday. He then finished just two saves shy of matching his career-high with 15 saves against Castleton on Saturday despite playing just three quarters |

Katie Kleine, Fredonia Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia View Full Bio Kleine filled the stat sheet in both wins, the seventh and eighth straight for the Blue Devils. Her seven assists, eight ground balls, and five caused turnovers vs. Elmira were all-season highs. She followed that with season-highs in goals (6) and points (10) vs. New Paltz. She caused seven turnovers and took six draw controls in the two games. |

Liz Ingalls, Cortland Centerport / St. Anthony's View Full Bio Ingalls helped lead the nationally second-ranked Red Dragons (9-0, 3-0 SUNYAC) to a pair of conference wins last week. In a 17-7 victory at Oneonta on Tuesday, Ingalls made nine saves as the Red Dragons pulled away from a tight 5-4 game at the half. In an 11-3 win at Oswego on Saturday, she blanked the Lakers in the second half allowing Cortland to break open a 3-3 game at the intermission, finishing the game with eight saves and three ground balls. For the week, Ingalls posted a 5.31 GAA with a .630 save percentage to raise her record to 9-0 on the season. |

Samuel Taft, Brockport Schenectady / Schenectady Christian View Full Bio Junior sprinter, Samuel Taft helped the Brockport men's track and field team open up the 2014 outdoor season with a first place overall team finish. Taft took first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.08 and then first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.02. Taft's times are currently ranked 21 and 22 respectively in all of NCAA Division III. |

J.D. Roth, Oneonta Pearl River / Nanuet View Full Bio Roth finished seventh in the hammer throw amongst Div. I athletes this weekend at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton. Roth recorded a personal best mark of 55.85m (183'-3") which is the seventh best in DIII. |

Kelley Driscoll, Plattsburgh Geneva, N.Y. / Geneva View Full Bio In her first outdoor action of the season, senior Kelley Driscoll raced to a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at Princeton University's Sam Howell Invitational. Her time of 36:21.31 not only helped the senior better a number of NCAA Division I competitors, it currently stands as the fourth-best 10,000-meter run time among all NCAA Division III student-athletes. Driscoll additionally shaved over 25 seconds off of her previous personal best in the event. |

Marcy Merritt, Brockport Sherwood, WI / Kaukauna View Full Bio Senior Marcy Merritt was the Brockport women's track and field top finisher at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational, opening up her final outdoor season with a first place finish in the pole vault. Merritt took the top spot with a mark of 3.43 meters which is tied for 20th in the nation in Division III. |
