Women's Track and Field Conference Awards Announced
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its annual outdoor track and field individual award winners. All-Conference is made up of the individual first and second place finishers at the SUNYAC Championship. The top ten female overall point getters in both track and field events at the SUNYAC tournament are considered for the Most Outstanding Athlete Awards. The winners are voted on by the conference coaches. The Outstanding Female Track Athlete was Anna Dambacher from Fredonia State, the Outstanding Female Field Athlete recipient went to Taylor Hudson from SUNY Cortland and Cortland's Steve Patrick was named the Coach of the Year.
Dambacher took the 100 meter dash SUNYAC title during the 2014 SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field championship meet at SUNY Geneseo. The Divernon, Illinois native broke her own school record with 12.03 seconds in her victory. She also placed second in the 200 meters with a 24.50 seconds mark, also breaking her previous school record. Coming into the Championships, Dambacher was the No. 1 seed in the 100 meters and the No. 3 seed in the 200 meters. She also participated in the 4x100 Meter Team Relay, helping Fredonia finish in fourth place.
Hudson helped Cortland take home a fourth-straight SUNYAC Women's Track and Field Championship. The Cortland junior took home titles in the high jump and long jump, repeating as high jump champion. The Victor, New York native broke her own meet record in the high jump with a height of 1.68 meters (5' 6"), which also set a facility record, and also broke the facility record in the long jump with her winning distance of 5.66 meters (18' 7"). Hudson finished as the top scorer with 32 points, including 28 in the field events at the SUNYAC Championships.
This is Patrick's fourth-consecutive SUNYAC Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year honor. In his seventh season as SUNY Cortland's Head Coach, Patrick guided his women's squad to their fourth-straight SUNYAC Women's Track and Field Championship, its 17th in the program's history. Cortland took home the 2014 SUNYAC Women's Track and Field Team Championship, with a score of 168 points in the 21 events, including winning the 4x100 Meter Relay and five individual titles in high jump, long jump, 100 meter hurdles, shot put, and heptathlon. Cortland's Patrick has also previously been named Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2008, 2012, and 2013. Patrick is assisted by his staff, Larry Czarnecki, Marques Dexter, Josh Henry, Peter McGinnis, Veronica Montrose and Phill Wiltshire.
