ECAC honors Athlete of the Week and announces Track and Field Champions
The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) honored two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 8, 2015.
Baseball Division III Upstate
Player of the Week:
Myles Kutscher – Oswego State, So., OF, Glen Head, N.Y.
Kutscher played a pivotal role in helping Oswego State to a series victory over Rowan University last week. The sophomore outfielder batted .389 over the four games, recording seven hits and eight RBI.
Pitcher of the Week:
Brendyn Karinchak – Oswego State, Sr., P, Walden, N.Y.
Karinchak did not allow a single run in helping Oswego land its first victory of the season. The senior tossed eight innings of scoreless ball and struck out eight batters in a 3-0 win over Rowan on Saturday afternoon.
ECAC Division III Track and Field Championship
The 2015 ECAC Division III Track and Field Championships were held on Saturday evening at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City. Buffalo State ran away with the women's championship by tallying a two-day total of 61 points.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Buffalo State senior Jazmin Dunham (Rochester, N.Y) sprinted her way to the gold medal with a time of 8.81 seconds. Teammate Jazlyn Porter (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) was equally impressive in winning the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 56.49. Junior Sasa Vann (Mastic Beach, N.Y) rounded out the Bengals' Saturday winners by taking the top spot in the 500-meter dash, registering a meet record mark of 1:14.57.
The men's teams for both SUNY Cortland and The College at Brockport tied for second with 41.5 points just fell short behind the top team Amherst College who finished with 42 points.
In the men's heptathlon, the College at Brockport senior Samuel Taft (Schenectady, NY) utilized his first day lead to capture the title and set a new meet record with 5,057 total points.
