Oneonta's Rob Farrell selected as Academic All-American; four others earn District 3 honors
AUSTIN, Texas - Oneonta's Rob Farrell was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Team. Farrell earned second team national honors after being selected to the District 3 first team. Â
Â
Farrell recently completed his academic and athletic career at Oneonta that culminated with a fourth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles to earn All-American honors for the first time. He was a SUNYAC medalist in both the 110-meter high hurdles and 400 hurdles this spring while being named to the All-Conference second team. He finished his track career as a three-time SUNYAC champion and a one-time ECAC champion.
Â
Academically, Farrell was a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honoree while being on the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and Commissioner's List throughout his four years. Farrell was accepted into the Doctoral program at SUNY Upstate Medical where he will continue his education.
Also honored this spring was Brockport's Rachel Malone; Geneseo's Keira Wood and Oneonta's Marielle Genovesi and David Busby who earned District 3 first team accolades. Â
District 3 is made up of all the colleges in the state of New York. Each athlete is nominated by their respective Sports Information Directors who are members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Â
To be eligible for nomination at the district level, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Â
A student athlete is eligible for the national ballot only if he/she is named to the first team in one of the eight CoSIDA districts. Only members of the Academic All-America Committee, the CoSIDA Board of Directors and past presidents are eligible to vote on the national ballot, which amounts to just over 100 voters.
