Shaughnessy, Duffy recognized by NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Team
Plattsburgh senior Patrick Shaughnessy and Brockport senior Brian Duffy have been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2011 College Division Men Scholar All-East Region Team. Shaughnessy was announced as a member of the first team, while Duffy earned second team recognition.
In order to be nominated for this honor, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all games, be a significant contributor to their team, and earn at least junior academic standing.
Shaughnessy recorded a 3.55 grade point average while playing in all 20 games for the Cardinals. He led the conference with 33 points as he tallied 14 goals, including seven game-winners, and five assists. Shaughnessy will graduate with a degree in Childhood Education.
Duffy has compiled a 3.96 grade point average and is one of just 10 members of the All-East Region Team to earn the honor twice. He was a Team Captain for the Golden Eagles this season as well as one of the driving forces steering their defense. Duffy is on his way to completing his degree in Computer Science.
In addition eight other SUNYAC men’s soccer players earned honorable mention recognition; Anthony Lubrano (Cortland), Robert McGinnis and Matthew Grabowski (Fredonia), Colin Begy and Ian Mort (Geneseo), Robert Wexler and Michael Santalesa (New Paltz), and Nicholas Lange (Oneonta).
