Margolis and Fortier Selected SUNYAC and ECAC Soccer Players of the Week
Cortland freshman Amanda Margolis (Oceanside, NY) and Oneonta junior Eric Fortier (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) both led their teams to a pair of conference wins to help them earn the SUNYAC and ECAC Upstate Soccer Athlete of the Week honors.
Margolis helped Cortland sweep a pair of SUNYAC games over the weekend, 3-2 in overtime versus Buffalo St. on Friday and 3-0 versus Fredonia on Saturday to earn women’s soccer Player of the Week honors. On Friday, Margolis assisted on Cortland's second goal of the game. In Saturday's contest, Margolis scored all three of the Red Dragons' goals. She opened the scoring 1:46 into the game, then added two insurance goals three minutes apart in the second half to seal the win. Margolis leads Cortland in goals (6), assists (4) and points (16) on the season. The Red Dragons have won five consecutive games and improve to 8-4-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference to lead the conference standings with two weekends of league play remaining.
Fortier was named SUNYAC men’s soccer Player of the Week after he scored three goals in a 2-0 week for the Red Dragons. Fortier led Oneonta to a pair of wins versus SUNYAC foes Potsdam and Plattsburgh to help the Red Dragons remain undefeated in league play. Fortier scored the middle two goals in a 4-0 win against Potsdam. Versus nationally 12th- ranked Plattsburgh he scored the opening goal in a 5-0 rout of the Cardinals. The two wins for Oneonta pushes its current unbeaten streak to nine games while extending its program record for home games without a loss to 25. Oneonta remains at the top of the SUNYAC standings with its unbeaten record (5-0-1) in the conference.
