Schneider and Altadonna Garner Players of the Week in Soccer
Seniors Arielle Schneider (Plainview, NY) and Jimmy Altadonna (Massapequa Park, NY) led Brockport and New Paltz, respectively, to two must-wins on the weekend.
Schneider anchored the defense and tallied an assist for The College at Brockport, which earned two huge shutouts. The Golden Eagles defeated Potsdam and Plattsburgh on the road to jump up to the sixth and final spot in the SUNYAC playoffs. Against Potsdam, the Brockport defense only allowed three shots en route to a 2-0 win. At Plattsburgh, Brockport was out-shot 19-4, but the Golden Eagles only allowed five shots on goal in their second straight shutout. Schneider assisted the game-winning goal in the 12th minute in a 1-0 win, as the Golden Eagles passed the Cardinals for the final playoff spot.
Altadonna collected two goals and two assists this past week for the Hawks, lifting New Paltz to a pair of SUNYAC wins and a berth in the 2011 SUNYAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. He buried a game-tying goal late in the second half against SUNY Fredonia on Friday, leading the Hawks to a 2-1 victory. He then followed that performance up by being involved with each of New Paltz's three goals in a 3-2 win over Buffalo State on Saturday, offering one score and two assists. On the year, Altadonna has four goals and two assists for 10 points. New Paltz has earned the number six seed in the SUNYAC tournament, making its first appearance since 2004. The Hawks conclude their regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 26, against Drew University, hosting the Rangers at 3 p.m.
