Siegelman and Bergin Named Players of the Week
Oneonta's Max Siegelman (Roslyn, NY) and Geneseo's Kelly Bergin (Middletown, NY/Pine Bush) have been named the men's and women's Soccer Players of the week for the week of September 12-18, as announced by the SUNYAC.
Senior goalie Siegelman has earned the third SUNYAC men’s soccer Player of the Week honor. Siegelman led Oneonta to a 1-0-1 week. He made two saves on Sept. 13 in shutting out RPI, who was ranked No. 7 in the East Region. On Sept. 16, the Red Dragons faced the #1 team in last week's NSCAA coaches poll, Christopher Newport, and Siegelman made six saves including three during the overtime periods to preserve a 1-1 tie for the Red Dragons. Siegelman is currently 3-1-1 overall with a 1.06 GAA.
Geneseo’s Bergin, a senior forward, was honored as the SUNYAC women’s soccer Player of the Week after netting an overtime game-winner and assisting on another game winning goal. On Wednesday, she notched the game-winning goal 1:24 into overtime to give the Knights a 2-1 win over Nazareth. It was the third year in a row Bergin has scored the game-winning goal against Nazareth (twice in overtime). On Sunday afternoon, she assisted the game winner in a 2-0 victory over Westminster in the 23rd minute. Bergin is second on the team with four goals and seven points on the season. Geneseo improves to 6-1 on the season and will look for its seventh straight win on Friday when they open SUNYAC play on the road against Fredonia at 4pm.
