Oneonta's Eric Fortier selected as a national All-American
The NSCAA has released its 2011 men’s soccer All-America team and SUNY Oneonta junior forward Eric Fortier has earned third team honors. With the honor, Fortier becomes the first men’s player since 1980 to earn national honors and the sixth individual all-time to be recognized as one of the best in the country.
Fortier, who was selected as the SUNYAC Player of the Year, had a tremendous season for the Red Dragons as he helped lead Oneonta to the NCAA Div. III national championship weekend in San Antonio. Fortier led the team with 28 points and was tied for the team lead in goals with 12. He also was the leader in game-winning goals with four. Fortier was eligible for the national ballot after being selected to the All-East Region first team.
Oneonta completed an 18-3-2 record this fall while going unbeaten in the SUNYAC with an 8-0-1 record. The Red Dragons were the top seed for the conference tournament and captured the SUNYAC title with a 1-0 win versus Brockport. Oneonta advanced to the NCAA Div. III semifinals before falling to Calvin College, 4-2.
